My scrawny little chicken legs are exhausted.
I participated in an "Amazing Race" style charity event yesterday to raise money for a women's volleyball team. We ran around downtown Toronto all morning and afternoon following clue after clue. First you open up the envelop with the clue on it, then you have to figure out the location, find the payphone number it says to call from and dial the organizers. She then asked a question relating to the location you're at, and you have to answer that before she gives you the next clue. It was all very fun and exciting. While my partner and I came in 8th out of 11, we probably had the best stories to tell: - We were the only team that took a detour to go shopping so I could buy shorts and a sleeveless T-shirt. Not only did we buy the T-shirt, but I had to exchange for a bigger size, which in itself was a story simply because when I did return it, it was covered, no, soaked in my own nasty sweat - and I mean, literally drenched. The sales girl offered to take my t-shirt back as I got a new size, I convinced her instead to let me put it on the counter as I ran off with the newer size. - We were the only team that bought water at a fast food booth, clear flavoured sports drink at a drugstore, ice-cream AND slushy from a roadside ice-cream truck, and it was served by literally the slowest vendor in the world. I honestly thought at that point he was doing it slowly because he sensed we were in a rush. I mean, it took him 1 minute to pour my slushie! - I had a massive leg cramp towards the end as my right anemic calf started to stiffen up like crazy. I then hobbled the rest of the way, but because I had to compensate, my right hip started hurting. I guess the old age thing is catching up? I don't know, but it's been a long while since I've ran that much, and in heat, in jeans (for about the first hour and a half), and dehydrated - age alone cannot be blamed. All in all, we had a great, great time. The team that won it beat us by almost an hour! They were kids that just ran literally everywhere and then rode their bicycle s home. Bugger me. ....I'd do it again though, and this time, I'm going to train for it. |
