That's what I'm saying. Too many people from HK have emigrated, and now that China has pretty much opened the flood gates to allow cross pollenation of China and HK, making it very easy to emigrate from former to latter, it's guaranteed to happen that putonghua will be so dominant that the need for Cantonese will cease.

Yes, I realize there are other parts of the world that uses Cantonese - like Macau, but they're quite small - and isn't enough to keep it going strong.

Besides, people from HK moved out of there and came to places like Toronto. I doubt my kids will be able to speak fluent Cantonese.

Heck, even I'm starting to lose it without practice.
