Duh posting from Anaheim. Here for a friend's wedding. Normally I hate weddings, but this one is in the hotel we're staying in, as well as the reception so it's perfect for lazy people like me. I also hear the ceremony itself is going to be really short. So anyways, I'll be in Naperville on Mon.

probably my last toy ill be getting for a while: tungsten E

i got it for an extremely good price, thanks to some gift certificates i already had. its no match for Eric's clie of course but itll serve my purposes plus allow me to listen to some tunes on the side. anyway, i havent gotten it yet so i guess theres not much to say about it til then.

btw Eric ill probably end up getting a subscription too. been thinking about it for a while, not sure why ive been putting it off. hope you like it.

Just subscribed to Popular Photography. :D

Tuesday, May 18
i have a subscription to lenswork, which is... i dont even know because ive only gotten one issue so far. its more artsy and features just a few artists, their work, and a write-up and/or interview of each. very sparse ads, and its all b&w. i guess you could say its more on the artsy side, and i like it purely for the pics inside. if you want a photo mag for more practical purposes, the all-time giant would be popular photography, which has a very good mix of everything that covers both digital & film. im not terribly familiar with the other photo mags out there, as all their names begin to sound alike after a while.

Dan, what photo magazine do you subscribe to? I need a suggestion. I was going to get American Photographer or whatever, it's a decent enough mag, but it's only bi-monthly.

I don't want a completely digital biased mag.

I guess anyone can chime in if they've got suggestion.

Dan, nice. Not fair tho, he got to go inside. :P

Lawrence, you are odd. I couldn't associate dates like that. Heck, my Mom's date is either 1 day before or after my best bud's b-day, and I still can't recall.

I give up. :)

Otherwise, Lisa's grandfather just got a stroke, which is pretty chaotic. Her PoPo (his wife) died from it.

It's his second stroke I believe.

Eric, heres a site that i ran across while reading an article in a photo mag, thought you might find the splash pic to be vaguely familiar:

argh, half hour too late. boooooo. happy birthday gibbon

i suck at remembering bdays too.

Thanks Justin and Eric. I had a few beers last night with a couple friends, nothing big.

I only know your birthdays because they fall on or near interesting days. Dan was born Friday 13, Justin's is like a week after Roberta's, and Eric's is on the day we got our first parakeet. Why I remember those things I don't know. I always manage to forget within a month of the date though.

Lawrence, didn't know it was your b-day. I'm terrible with remembering people's bdates. To this day, I don't know my Mom's.

Anyway, hope you had a good one. Did you get that girl to give you a friendly birthday hug at least? Cop a feel for me will you? >:)

Cheap thrills is cheap thrills mang.

hey all. just to let you know, i haven't vanished off the face of the earth. happy birthday, lawrence. did you do anything special today?

"Dr. Bill Berg, of the Hampton Health District, said mice carry several viruses and bacteria, but as long as the mouse is well cooked it would be safe to eat."

ever notice how everytime theres some extreme news of sorts theres always some idiotic emotionless stiff who has the capacity to make a stupid comment like that? id like to see him eat a well-cooked mouse. moron.

Hey Lawrence, boooo to her!

If she only wanted to be friends, that only means that by definition there's someone better out there for you.

Weird news item of the day (aka News that makes you never want to eat out ever, ever again): A woman in a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Virgina found a mouse in her vegetable soup. I don't know how true it is, given that it seems to be reported only by the smaller news sources (in my opinion, anything not CNN). I've read a lot of ULs so I'm possibly more skeptical than some, but anyway...check your food guys.

Thanks for the support. I get over things pretty fast, and this helped even more. The two of us are still going to be friends, which is fine by me because I was never "in love" with her in the first place. Plus, it never hurts to have a good-looking girl as a friend.

I know we don't mention it much, but... I know you came from pretty far down to get where you are today Eric, so, no kidding, your success with your girlfriend is pretty damn inspiring.

Larry: ah shoot, that's too bad dude. At least you knew there was a game of baseball. I only found out not too long ago that a stadium exists. So don't feel too down.

Besides, she lost out anyhow. Boo on her, the little twit.

>:) You'll get them next time, tiger.

I JUST GOT AN I-PASS!!!

anyway, dont worry Lawrence. ive effectively never stepped up to the plate yet so youve outdone me already. not sure if that says anything of course...

You can call me the new strikeout king now. Turns out she just wanted to be friends the whole time. Oh well, you win some, you lose some, huh.

pasted from my blog:

a few no-brainer thoughts off the top of my head: didnt really do any "serious" shooting with it yet, but im already not used to not having shutter or aperture priority. in fact, im not even entirely clear on what modes it DOES have, beyond flash on/off. other than that, controls are fairly user-friendly and easy to figure out. one potentially glaring flaw is no manual white balance, but from what i read in the reviews the auto mode does a decent job. the size is perfect, exactly what i was looking for. sure, there are smaller cameras out there that fit in altoids tins, blah blah blah but those have telescoping lenses, which is where this one shines. at about 2cm thick, this baby's lens is entirely internal, but yet able to pull off "3x optical zoom". this camera is supposedly notorious for producing noisy images, so i have it set to ISO50 at all times. havent really tested out the noise reduction feature so not sure if its actually useful or just a gimmick at this point. anyway, again this is my go-anywhere camera so my expectations on features or what not arent that high, and im probably going overboard talking about it as it is. in short, i probably wouldnt recommend having one of these as a primary camera, but as a backup it seems more than good enough. my goal was a 3MP+ camera that i can store in my pocket, and the Xt fits the bill.

[btw i was writing that while in a rush, so please excuse the choppy thoughtstreams]

That's the closest you'll get to riding my bike. :P

I came very close to buying a 99 900RR (also known as a fireblade), but ended up buying my 929.

The 900rr supposedly has a very light front wheel, making it prone to tankslap. I wouldn't know, because my 929 has the exact same problem. I tankslapped her so many times on the track, I lost count. I ended up getting a steering damper for it, to keep it from shimmying left to right.

The only concern for riding other people's ride is crashing.

Remeber the old adage. A friend is a friend, but a bike is your love.

rode a motorcycle today for the first time in 294 days. that mustve been the longest 294 days of my life.

too bad it wasnt my own. a friend needed help transporting his bike so i jumped at the opportunity. its a 98 honda cbr 900RR (not that anyone aside from Eric would remotely care), slightly larger and much more powerful than my old one. i couldnt resist opening up the throttle on straightaways, but i was a bit tentative on the turns. overall it felt pretty natural tho, and sure was great to ride again. my motorcycle class is in a little over a month, although i tentatively wont be able to afford a bike because of the whole condo thing. ah well, one thing at a time i guess.

and right now, its time to sleep.

Saturday, May 1
thanks. just hope nothing goes wrong between now and then. with my luck, you never know...

btw got the flat fixed today. $12 down the drain, all because of this little guy:

That's great news Dan (the condo I mean, not the flat (haha, pun)). Anyways, I'm really happy to see that things are coming together for you.

i give up.

anyway, tentative closing date is beginning of june. the building itself is about 30 years old but its brand new rennovation. going in sometime this week to pick out carpet colour, countertops, cabinets, etc. oh, and turning in a huge check thats worth more than my life. fun fun.

long day, and i gotta go into work tomorrow. gnite.

wow, a place of your own. Nice.

How many yrs before it gets built?
