I'm gonna go off on a rant here. Spelling and grammar will not be heeded (well, more than usual anyway).

What is the NHL trying to do? Ruin a great game? What is the obsession with higher scoring games? I don't care if the Yanks watch hockey. If you don't get 10 inches of snow a winter, you don't deserve to have a team. I don't care how rich you are.

Look, the Americans aren't watching hockey, boo-flipping-hoo. If you want to watch a 90-87 game, have NBA all year around. If you want 40-21 games, stick with arena football. So what if that gets more airtime than hockey.

High scoring game? I tell you what, why don't you just take out the goalie? Or better yet, shot hitting a goal post would equal 3 points, each goal is worth 6 points, and then after every goal, you have a penalty shot. If you get it in, it's an extra point. How about that? How's that for a high scoring number game?

I happen to like 2-1 games. I happen to like sitting at the edge of my seat hoping against hope that someone will put one in. I like the action, the suspense, not seeing the puck go in every other minute.

I really don't care about the American public, sorry you guys. It's a Canadian game, thought up by a bunch of guys with wood, time, and too much ice.

The problem is that everybody and their Florida-tanned uncles want to make money, and they think that having a sports team at the professional level will bring them that. A lot of NHL players now shouldn't belong at the pro level, so they play the dreaded trap. They trap the hell out of you.

You know, games change. Games evolve. Eventually, someone will come up with a system which can beat the trap. The dump and chase game may be boring to you, but I don't mind seeing guys hustle hard to get the puck and throw some bodies at the same time.

Now, I'm not a hockey afficionado per se. I can't regurgitate stat after stat about obscure players (or even well known one for that matter). What I do know is that as it stands, I'm happy with the game. I like watching Belfour handle the puck. It's a true skill not gifted to all puck handlers. I don't know about the reduce pads. If it doesn't compromise goaltending safety, maybe. But I really don't see what is the big deal right now.

....Don Cherry, help me out here.
