Thursday, August 28
yeah, saw mars on tuesday night but 1) i didnt have a telescope or even binoculars and 2) i was in the city. still, mustve been a clear night cuz i could see faint hints of stars while sitting in grant park. last night a few of my nerdy friends took two telescopes with them and drove quarterway down illinois in the middle of nowhere to go mars gazing. they could make out the ice caps and at some points, some faint hints of terrain. i wouldve gone too except i fell asleep. ah well.

What's up with the lethargy, y'all? (says the person who hasn't posted in weeks)

You guys seen Mars yet? It's beautiful. The best viewing night was Tuesday, when it was closest to the Earth, but supposedly it'll still be pretty spectacular for a few weeks. Once you know where to look for it (southeastern sky a couple of hours after sunset (I get a good view starting 9:15, 9:30 p.m. CST)) you can't miss it. Brightest thing around except for the moon. Check out astronomy.com for tips.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

yup, this place is dead.

I wish my mouse was. It's really starting to piss me off!

Well, we (another guy came from Chicago) went all the way to NY and Boston just to hang around the Chinatowns. Oh well, they're so much bigger than the Chicago one though. I'll never look at it the same again. Lots of "gai see" like "ngaap liu gai" in HK. It was pretty uneventful, but that didn't matter much. What was cool was that I felt like I was back in college again (I went to see my college friends). If life could be like that all the time, just hanging out and eating all day instead of going into work, that would be the best. Not that I'm complaining about life as it is or anything, but you know what I mean.

There are a few pics my friend took, but it mostly shows us eating... so not much there. I did buy a Mahjonng set, the only one I've found so far in the states that doesn't have English added to it. Cost $22 (she gave us a whole $3 off when we threatened to leave), and the set's pink (oh well), but it was worth it. Now to find some people here to play with... I've avoided making only Chinese friends in Madison, so now I have to start. Or teach my Caucasian friends...

Monday, August 18
thanks for the birthday wishes. i spent the weekend on a whirlwind trip to madison... too brief as always.

eric, i need to know whether i can stay with you 09/05-09/09. let me know asap... i need to renew my visa. i left you voice mail, messages on yahoo messenger and email. sorry about the overkill. i decided not to take the trip out to california. weekend getaways are so not worthwhile.

heres my latest junk email:

Dear Daniel Lo,

You're waiting in line at the supermarket checkout counter.

In front of you is a woman who'd love to look like you. To exhibit your vitality. To have your skin, your hair, your eyes.

Behind you is a teenage girl who yearns to own everything you have on. The gold. The cashmere. The shoes. The perfume.

And looking at your from across the store is a really good-looking guy who'd give almost anything to?or something equally R-rated.

You are a real, beautiful, stylish, sexy woman. You spend a good amount of time and energy to look good ? and it shows! That's the reason I'm writing you today. You are exactly the kind of woman who deserves to win a FREE $100 Victoria's Secret? Gift Certificate.

nothing like some flattering spam to boost your ego.

oh btw lets hear about your NY trip. any pictures?

Tuesday, August 12
btw i eventually did watch T1 while in my crippled state. i must say that it was rather ghetto, but im sure the "special" effects were probably somewhat revolutionary in its day. watched T2 again while i was at it too, and that one is still pretty impressive even watching it now. anyway, i guess we'll see what the sequel brings.

Lawrence, i tried searching for a 56-year-old friendster user residing in bolivia and couldnt find any. where you at?

I just got back from NY, so...

Happy Birthday to Justin!

Good to hear about Dan's shoulder. Can you slap knees yet?

Eric, I joined Friendster about a month ago, but didn't do anything with it. Is it any good? I entered fake info as usual, so I'm 56 and live in Bolivia.

Monday, August 11
Yes, Happy belated B-day to Justin as well. I meant to call you, but ended up going to shoot pool with my buddy, and forgot.

Justin, BTW, can you believe my buddy Billy is getting married? Yeah, scary huh? Holey Cow!

For the rest of you, just give a collective "I care not" shrug.

Sunday, August 10
not that you check this, but happy birthday Justin

oh, and this whole friendster thing is insane.

anyway, just to let everyone know my shoulder is coming along pretty ok. i was able to put on a t-shirt for the first time today (as opposed to a wifebeater* or button down shirt), and im also able to play some limited guitar and violin, although only on the 2 right strings (E and A) because i cant lift my arm high enough to reach the other 2, haha. still for the most part i have a negligible amount of strength at the right shoulder, but i can sense slight improvements here and there. im not sure what the average rate of healing is so i guess i have nothing to compare to, but im just happy to be able to be out and about, even if somewhat limited.

I still don't use my real name. I use "asiliat", which is my chat board posting name.

I used to hate people who had more than 1 handle, but now I find it's much easier to distinguish myself.

well i DID learn to brush my teeth with my left hand. im unstoppable!

so whats the deal on this friendster thing? ive had about 10 ppl try to get me to join and ive fended them all off, but not sure if i can resist Eric's. is it safe to use my real name?

anyway, had my first outing to the city last night. i felt almost normal again, aside from the difficulty of getting in and out of the car. ah well, easy does it.

Wednesday, August 6
Really? I wish I could use chopsticks w/ my left hand. Ah, to be gifted....

I owe Justin nothing dang it, he's my brother! :D I'll take him out if/when he comes to visit me again.

Tuesday, August 5
blah, i already could use chopsticks with my left hand. oh well.

keep in mind Justin was the one who mailed the package for its final leg of the trip. does that mean i owe him money now? let me know.

Dan, good to hear you're begining to mend. Think of the positive side, you can probably use chopsticks now w/ your left hand.... hehe.

As for the amount, I think I gave you a $2 tip. ~$28 for shipping, and ~$70 for all parts. I should actually start paying you for the effort, but I'm a cheapo and trying to leech off my relatives. ;)

Monday, August 4
quick update on my shoulder... went to the doctor today and im now officially allowed to move my right arm again. the thing is its totally stiff, to the point where i have a negligible range of motion at the right shoulder. my job for the next 3 weeks is to regain as much motion as i can before i start PT. fun.

if only my bike was in as good of shape...

Saturday, August 2
check came in today. boy that fast. are you sure you didnt overpay me? dont remember the amount, but didnt seem like it was that much...

Friday, August 1
thanks.

uh... i guess thats all too for now. hows everyone else doing?
