Franchise gone bad, that's about all I can say when it comes to "The Matrix".

You can imagine this as the third movie unfolds before you eyes. You deny it, or try to, but it nags at the back of your mind, from the trite beginning to the utter garbage ending.... "The Wachowski brothers simply wrote the movie as it went along, finally storied themselves into a corner, and couldn't come up with an ending."

So they left it, as ugly as a stillborn. As cruel and unusual as stuffing a baby into a garbage bin in 20 below weather. Yes, I know you're disgusted right now. But so am I, and you will be too, after watching the third installment.

I now know why Warner Bros. decided to release both movies in the same year. People would picket, boycott and maybe even vandal WB if they waited two years for this. Heck, I was mad, and I saw it for free!

Okay, I'm a lot calmer now. I won't spoil it for anybody. I'm sure the movie, taken out of context will not be that bad. Afterall, watching the second one again but without the hype and by myself, it wasn't too bad. It was actually entertaining.

But the third one, it just plain jane ran out of ideas. Stunts seems rehashed, stories are convulated at best, and just plain idiotic when the subplots become cliche. To say the lines and acting were cheesy doesn't begin to fumigate the repugnant fromage-like stink that is the Matrix ending.

I mean, we're talking total disregard for the Matrix ethos, much like Highlander II did to it's predecessor. If you've ever seen Highlander, liked it, and then thought the second would be just as good, then you'll know what to expect for Revolutions.

Hey, by all means, go catch it. If you've seen the first two in the theatres, then the third one isn't to be missed. Watch the detail, the special effects. Think of the beauty in the logistics of shooting such a movie. When you're done with the eye-candy, you will realize that sick feeling in your stomach is akin to eating all the chocolate at one go at Hallowe'en. (Or if you're like me, who never got to celebrate such a macabre holiday, then it's like being allowed to eat the whole bag of chocolate at one sitting.) Yes. Really.

Anyway, I'm exaggerating of course, I won't deny that I was enraptured during some of the sequences, amazed at the imaginative use of special affects. The geek in me says: "Wow, they can do that?!"

At the very least, it will be a movie people will be debating for a long time to come. It is definitely a conversation starter.

I'm still giving it a thumbs down though, albeit a must watch film if you've seen the first two. If nothing else, it will allow you to join in the discussion of just "What is the Matrix?" However, if you hated the first movie, save yourself some cash, and go rent "Searching for Bobby Fisher."

....Laurence Fishburne is in that one too, and we don't have to think about the ending.
