So here's my new money making scheme.
First we take an existing technological idea, float a blimp that circles the city, beaming an internet signal 24/7.... Right, so then we have a device much like a PDA, except with better up/down stream capability. We don't need a cell phone anymore, because with the blimp, we can use voice-over IP to connect to other people for $30 a month. The PDA would stick to a port in your car, replacing today's navigation system, and with decent voice recognition software, we can say: "Computer -- artist: John Denver. Song: Rocky Mountain High" -- which would then download the mp3 from the net @ $.10 a song. Cached to your PDA for a month before self-deletion. Holding up to 100 songs at a time (because MP3Pro will be popular by then.) This is convergence. We have a PDA for our daily task, which turns into a GPS/nav system when plugged into the car. We get broadband access on the fly, and custom music programming. Songs would be licensed by the record companies, thereby recovering their so called lost revenues from free MP3s. Heck, why stop there. Say you're going to catch a flick. You could first check the times/schedule online, find directions to the nearest location that's playing, and if so desired, watch the trailer before picking the movie that night. You could even finally realize every bluetooth geek's fantasy. Swipe your PDA to pay for your tickets.... It gets even better. Sit in the theatre, order your popcorn on your PDA, and then go out to pick it up once your bluetooth PDA correctly IDs you as the guy who ordered the double-butter, high-sodium, extra-large cajoun spiced popcorn with an extra large diet-pop. Not sure the PDA belongs to you? Activate the digital photo and match it with the real face. No more line-ups when you already know what you want. Even more! Before the start of the movie, download the bio of an interesting actor. Heck, watch the director's intro as to why he choose Tom Cruise over a digital caricature of Fred Astare. Find out stuff about the movie you didn't (or even wanted to) know. This stuff is great! The applications are limitless!! ....When I'm on a roll, it's like cruise control. |
