duh. we gave it a slight makeover, i guess. we're not done tweaking it yet, and theres a lot of things i want to change about it. i am not defending it, because i dont like it either! bwahahahaha we havent put the blog back on yet. trying to get more "important" stuff taken care of first. in the meantime, youll just have to settle for my personal blog, which btw will soon be moved to a different host so those darn banners will be gone forever! Hey Dan, what happened to dealuniveristy? It looks different, and there's no blog. I think the layout was more professional-looking before, but that's just my opinion. Where's the blog!!! Wednesday, June 19
blogging at work, BWAHAHAHAHAHA... so must keep this relatively short. well i drive a poser civic too. boooooooooooo!! Roberta, you gotta watch Attack of the Clones. movies like this have to be experienced with full non-dollar theatre sound. if youre only gonna watch it once, may i suggest the lowes theatre at Streets of Woodfield (in schaumburg near woodfield mall). 1 of 3 theatres in the state with a digital projector, woohoo!! if you actually aspire to do so, id recommend buying tickets online, since those tend to sell out faster than the regular showings. ok, more updates, if anyone cares. ive effectively "dropped out" of college [for the time being], and im working full time at the baseball card store, managing/updating their website amongst other things. although this is certainly not long-term in any sense of the phrase, im kinda liking the working life. ok ok, so i guess it depends on the job, but yeah, so far its not too bad. i guess its just nice not to have to worry about going to class, getting homework done, studying for tests ill end up failing anyway, things like that. i used to dread waking up for a noon class that would last a mere 2.5 hours, but i have no qualms about jumping out of bed at 8 (i know, thats relatively late) knowing theres 8+ hours of work ahead of me. oh, and that credit card debt ive been fighting off for the past 2 years or so? itll be history by the end of summer, at my current pace. so... do i have any incentive to go back to school anytime soon? no way. will i eventually? most likely, but not looking forward to it at the moment. anyway, ill also be taking a road trip (just for a long weekend) to NY and DC two weekends from now with my friend yidiot (Lawrence and Justin have both met him before, i believe). i have a couple of friends staying in DC for the summer with internships, so just going out there to visit, and also swinging by NY to see ground zero :( ill be bringing along a camcorder and hopefully come up with a pseudo-documentary... basically, just home video with some music, maybe. ill find a way to post any pictures we'll end up taking. alright well back to work for me. Hey...I do read CousinCheck...It's just that I wound up reading the last 25 posts all at once! Eric, can't access your badboy pic. Will have to try again from home... Lawrence and I both drive poser Civics! At least, I know mine is a poser... I must be one of the few people left who hasn't seen Ep II yet. But that's okay, I seem to be contiuing the trend. I didn't see Ep I until it came out in the dollar theaters. Now I have the DVD. (How's that for extremes?) Worth the cash? Don't know... Crisis going on at work right now...I test software, you see, and one of the dangers of testing is that you may actually find a problem. And boy did we ever! Since last Wed. my teammate and I have been working day and night shifts, including weekend. Fortunately his schedule is more flexible than mine so he got stuck with the midnight work Fri. and Sat....Hopefully I'll get to take some comp time in the middle of this week and recover. Not that the schedule will be getting easy enough to let us take comp time, but I'm going to insist. One last thing...I started google-ing for puzzle boxes after reading about them in a story, and some of the stuff I'm finding is absolutely mind-blowing. You know what they are, right? Boxes (traditionally wood) constructed with pieces that have to be pulled or slid or whatever in order to be unlocked. The most amazing stuff is at Cleverwood. Click on "Japanese Puzzle Boxes." These look like plain little rectangular boxes but they can take up to an astounding 60-some moves to get them open! Check out the other kinds of puzzle boxes on the site as well. Sunday, June 9
nice bad boy picture on your blog, Eric. too bad youre wearing a gap t shirt tho, hahahahaha. im no tough guy, but i dont think id ever wear a blatantly gap-looking piece of clothing. apologies to all the gap fans out there. so anyway, the other day i got a chance to drive my friend's 92 civic hatchback. im definitely a fan of sorts of import tuners, but at the same time im skeptical of most of the "rice rockets" on the road. sure, they look nice but generally they come across as overly loud and probably not much significantly faster than their stock counterparts. however, that was blown out the water when i inadvertanly peeled out of the parking lot after tapping on the gas pedal. the thing was a freaking monster! among the more noticeable performance upgrades included a sport clutch, short shifter, and an SiR engine. of course, it will never stand a chance against motorcycles (although he has beaten some off the line, if only momentarily), it would be wrong to call this car a slouch. my only regret was i wasnt able to push the car anywhere near close to its limits, because 1) i didnt have my license on me at the time, and 2) i didnt know how fast i was going thanks to the km/h-only japanese dash. luckily, my friend provided that experience for me when he plastered me to the passenger seat after [very abruptly] breaking the speed limit. of course, there will always be those posers out there driving around, but now i know theres at least one fast, unassuming little civic out there. well, ok, in case anyone ever checks this, heres a story for all to read, at my expense (copied/pasted from my blog): if this isnt murphy's law, i dont know what is. some background info: the computer im using now has windows 98 [first edition]. i initially installed windows 2000, but it slowed everything down too much so i opted to downgrade. incidentally, my win98 second edition CD has been borrowed, passed around, and lost, so i installed win98 off the first copy i got my hands on. unfortunately, i didnt realize it was first edition until it was too late. scenario 1 so freakball convinced me to buy a switch to share a connection between my two computers. however, the network card of this computer mysteriously stopped working. somehow, windows was unable to come up with a driver for it. solution after stalling for a week or so, i finally searched for/installed the appropriate driver. finally! so then i set up the switch, and it works... sheah right! scenario 2 the manual told me that this switch only works for win98 SE and above. of course, i dont know the first thing about home networking, but it clearly wasnt working so i had no reason to be skeptical. then freakball told me that its best for the server to be running win2k or above. i clearly remembered how much 2000 slowed down the computer, but i accepted the fact that i may not have much of a choice... solution so today i told myself id suck it up and install win2k again, after work. i turned on the computer and popped in the win2k CD. im all set to go, baby! scenario 3 wrong! to my dismay, the drive couldnt read the CD. i popped it into the other computer, and it read it fine. i made a copy of it, and put that in. nothing. i tested out another burned CD. nothing. then, an original CD... what do you know, the CD drive is broken. solution *sigh* |
