Huh. I didn't even realize it was Feb. 14 until halfway through the day.

Back in high school, some friend of mine would go around wishing everyone a "happy VD"...

I'm packing my office right now because my new group is being moved tomorrow to one of the new buildings. Which I think is a bad idea, because not only are the new offices cubicle-like, ugly, and tiny (is that redundant?), but I will also no longer be even in the same building as most of the people I actually work with. Thank you upper management, way to cut down on the productivity. The only plus is that I will be closer to the parking garages so it'll be a shorter dash in in the mornings. Oh, and nobody expects us to get any work done today and tomorrow.

Hey, remember when I said I burned my mp3s and lost them all? Well all of a sudden, they work now. I don't get it. Not too long ago it was one giant track of data. Now it's back to the normal file structure. I guess I'll never understand CD burning.

happy violent times day everyone.

Yeah I see it now too. That's pretty funny. Everyone knows about the horse head, Dan, you're just the last person on earth not to know haha. That must be econo-sized delivery.

ok, i think blogger has some kind of problem hyper linking to images or something, so ill have to send Lawrence the pictures or something so he can upload them into the proper acct. or is this on Justin's? argh, i dont even know. at any rate, the pictures do show up on my blog so you can take a look there if you're actually curious. enjoy.

strange... did someone go in and edit my post? i looked at the image tag just now and it was directed to the wrong place, which would explain why Lawrence was unable to see the pictures. well i just changed it back so hopefully it shows up now. oh well.

anyway, thanks Lawrence, ive never seen Godfather before either, but i guess i now know about the horse head part too. fool.

anyway, check out this picture i took while driving to chicago. not something youd see everyday, eh?

i hope this image shows up...

Well, no matter what computer I'm at, I can't see the pictures. Duh, well at least you made the guy happy for once. Post office jobs must be really boring.

Other than that, pretty much every day here is the same as the last. But that's a good thing, I guess. I can imagine worse "Groundhog Day" scenarios. I watched the Godfather finally. It's really good, but some of the plot elements were spoiled by having heard about them already (like the horse head). Oh well, I got my money's worth, even though my video is overdue. Blockbuster charges so much for later fees. So annoying.

note: make sure images load before reading. it kinda makes a difference

ive never mailed a videotape before, so naturally it took me a little while to figure out how to package it. after a fruitless search for a box, i eventually stuck the tape in thin bubble wrap, and used paper from a brown paper bag to put on the finishing touches. in the end i had this small ghetto-looking thing, like so:

(address censored for security reasons)

not the most presentable package, but hey, it did the job. satisfied with the results, i head out the door, jumped in the car, and drove to the post office, ready to mail it off. i was about to enter the main lobby area when i was confronted with this poster:

same poster, better image

great. right below the huge words "SUSPICIOUS MAIL ALERT" was a picture of the package i was holding in my hands. suddenly i felt very uncomfortable, as i wasnt the only person in the post office and i was willing to bet that i wasnt the only person to see the poster either. i had no time to stand around since i needed to get to work, so i helplessly got in line. next thing i know, it was my turn. now the story couldve ended right here, but being the paranoid fool that i am, i expressed my concern to the post office clerk about the appearance of my package, since i really needed it to be delivered prompty and without any potential delays. heres the resulting convo, and keep in mind the clerk is somewhat serious/old-looking guy, probably in early 50's or so:

me: umm, i noticed that my package here looks a lot like the warning poster you guys have up. is that going to be a problem?
clerk: (looks it over) no, it should be fine. its pretty clear that its just a videotape
me: (relieved) oh ok, i just didnt want there to be any problems with delivering it
clerk: well, the package itself looks fine, but YOU look suspicious
me: (silent, a bit taken back)
clerk: i might have to call security to have them check you out
me: (if i knew how to raise just one eyebrow, i'd be doing it right about now) oh... wait, are you serious?
clerk: (practically expressionless) oh yes
me: (thoroughly shocked at this point) what??
clerk: (finally cracks a smile) heh, no, i'm just kidding (continues to process my package)

man i swear i almost had a heart attack. the guy looked so serious, and totally didnt come across as someone who would crack a joke like that. he kinda laughed at me after that (which is understandable), and after paying for the postage i walked away feeling like a total fool. im never going to the post office again.

well yes, i eventually did find out that orange zest was in fact shaved orange peelings. interesting enough, seems like a lot of people out there knew that already, or at least werent as clueless as i was. oh well, i never aspired to be a chef, so its ok :P

Monday, February 4
Daniel, you were probably right to use orange peel, since as far as I know, "lemon zest" is thin shavings of lemon peel (you know, without the pith) so I image orange zest would be pretty much the same. I only know what ziti is because it used to be on our high school cafeteria menu! And I agree, it doesn't sound like food at all.

So...what movie was that?

I do most of my computer stuff at work, in between waiting for lab processes to finish, during lunch, etc. When I get home...I don't know where the time flies. It's one of the reasons I miss living by myself, though. Sure I have to spend time doing all my cooking/cleaning etc. myself, but somehow I also manage to have much more free time. Maybe it's just that my time is more flexible when I'm alone, and so I make better use of all the little "pockets" of free time that get lost when you have to coordinate your schedule with other peoples'.

Stupid fools at FOX...cancelled "The Tick"...morons. Not that I'm bitter.

Sunday, February 3
duh. well, feel free to post something... anytime :)

not much is going on here i guess. in fact, im not even sure why im posting, but i see that youre still reading this. i can keep going on and not write about anything in particular and yet youll still keep reading. ha ha ha, suckers! ok this is getting pointless even for me, so ill stop.

can you tell im bored?

alright well i should probably go study now. im almost fatally behind in my vb class, so off i go, hopefully followed by a short nap before the super bowl. too bad i dont even really like football.

Friday, February 1
i feel bad, but man i couldnt stop laughing after reading Eric's most recent LAM post. dont feel bad, ive made the same mistake before, just not in the snow.

Yeah Eric, it's the same with me. I get home at 6 or so these days, and I watch the Daily Show and the Simpsons. Then I just do other stuff. I don't even turn on the computer that much anymore. Maybe in a few weeks when I get things going smoother at work...
