At first, I wanted to just get on here quick and cry about having to work on the weekends. Last weekend before Christmas even.

Then, as I walked through the hallway, I noticed something quite perculiar and extremely disturbing. Name tags.

From the yester-years when life was good, everybody had durable, silvery-plastic nameplates etched in black lettering. This was nice.

Just last week, people who forgot to take their nameplates with them when we transferred offices were asked to pick up their new plates. They are nothing more than white pieces of paper with black letters printed on them. Nothing a guy with an inkjet printer and nice resume grade paper can't reproduce themselves.

"How cheesy." I said when I saw the first batch. Today, I realize to my horror just what it means!

It's cheap because they expect them to be replaced often. Gone are the days of job security. If you sneeze the wrong way or are caught picking your nose, you might as well not bother to show up the next day. Yeah, they're cutting the cost of nice nametags because they intend to make a lot of them in the future.

.....forget that, I'm glad I have to work today.
