Yeah, that's me. Guess I'll add everyone else. I like AIM better, but the Yahoo mic thing still gets me. It seemed really clear. My nickname was just a college in-joke that had, sorry to say, nothing to do with cute girls. Other than that, I think I'll have to use DU more often now. Problem is, I have no money. Otherwise, the next thing I'll buy (about 3 paychecks in this year) is a processor, hopefully 1.3GHz or so. Anything faster than that is just silly. Ooo palm pilot sounds good.

Lawrence, its possible to do voice chat over AIM too. i have a microphone but unfortunately, im on a modem connection so it doesnt really work that well. sometimes i hook up with friends via netmeeting with just video, so you can see the other guy. it's fun at first but gets old after a while. i guess it depends on who it is and what mood you're in. anyhow, i finally trapped the darn wasp that's been flying around me for the past 5 minutes. the fool kept trying to drink my RC cola, so i poured some into the tupperware that contained the lunch i just finished, and eventually he flew in and i closed the lid on him. dunno what im gonna do with him later, but i guess the problem is solved for now. my life is so exciting. wheeeeeeeeeeeee. Eric, 128MB smcard has been ordered.
Hey my friends got Yahoo messenger, and they can all talk to each other through microphones for free. Sounds pretty good, too. I didn't have a microphone though, so I had to type while they talked. Handicapped! Anyways, maybe we could try it out if any of y'all have microphones. I almost forgot what Eric sounds like. Otherwise, I met the upperclassmen today over beers. duh, this was my latest post on the DU blog. you may or may not find it interesting (if you havent heard about it already) --- Don't have too much to say right now, but just wanted to list a couple of cool A.I. "chatbots" that are out there. I know I'm by no means a pioneer of either one, but I'm sure there are probably some people out there who still don't know about them yet. The first one is for those of you who use AIM. Just add SmarterChild to your buddy list, and send a "hi" and it should tell you where to go from there. It provides practical information, depending on how you ask. The only drawback is that you have to ask fairly structured questions (i.e. "how is the weather like in chicago, illinois?") or else it may not necessarily respond. The other one is from the actual A.I. website itself. There's a pretty smart chatbot that you can "talk" to. It's by no means perfect, but it can hold an amazingly fluid conversation with you, on just about any topic. You can be a bit more lax with sentence structure with this one. Anyway, some of you might interpret this as an indication of how my social life is. Take it as you will, but I can reassure you that I DON'T sit around talking to A.I. friends all day long, and neither should you. Just something cool to try out. Sunday, August 26

How can you be paying for the shipping?! Just print out the sticker that Amazon has on their website for returning wrong product, and email them saying you screwed up the return procedure, BUT it is STILL their fault for shipping it wrong in the first place. YOu're are the customer, you're the one who placed the CORRECT order, but got the wrong product. Forget about the 128 meg card altogether. In this instance, it does not matter. I don't see why you can't get Amazon to credit you for THEIR mistake. Please please please, explain it to me on yahoo sometime. :) Wednesday, August 22

Yo, that's messed up. Can't you sue for malpractice? I think I had stomach flu before. It sucks, but at least you can walk. I thought appendicitis usually hurts enough that you're not able to walk by yourself. At least that's what I hear. So did they remove it anyway? Well, Roberta went to the hospital last night with stomach pains, and they said she had appendicitis. So she went in today for surgery, then oops! the doctors found out it was just the stomach flu. The ER doctors must be overworked. (Dan, don't tell this to your family, since your dad's still got to see doctors and stuff.) I was supposed to go canoeing yesterday, but we got rained out. well parking's a pain, depending on location of course. I assume you'll be in downtown for at least 2 -3 days, as that's where the action is. Of course I trust you. I love my car no doubt, but it's just a car. My brother and relatives come first. So yes, I trust you enough to let you drive it. Unless you INTEND to smash it up. Otherwise, it'd be an accident, which could happen to anyone. Both rear sides of my car is scratched up..... dont' ask me how, just idiots in parking lot. I swear I didn't hit anything while backin up! We'll worry about it when you arrive.
hey Eric, sorry about the new smartmedia card post on DU... it wasnt me!! i think Jeff found that one... anyway, havent had the chance to mention this, but Lawrence and i went golfing earlier this week. very interesting experience. it was at a "beginner's course" (nothing harder than par 3) and only 9 holes. of course ive played mini golf before and ive been to the driving range about 5 or 6 times over the span of 3 years so basically, i had no clue what i was doing. i just remember that when driving, id be able to have 2 or 3 satisfying hits out of the entire bucket. after playing the 9 holes, i could begin to see how golf can be enjoyable for those who know how to play, but for now its just not for me. Eric, how is parking in TO? i would imagine itd be more fun to take a bus/subway around just to soak in a bit more of the atmosphere (???) since i drive to get everywhere when im back home, so itd be something different. but yeah, justin case we need to or what not, i know how to drive stick, if you are willing to leave your GTI unattended, heh heh. too bad i dont know how to operate a motorcycle... yet. well, the problem with making the same flight is that Justin is leaving from milwaukee, which means ill have to somehow find a ride or drive myself up there (2+ hour drive, i think). same with departure, if we are to leave together. oh well, ill think of something... perhaps a taxi ride to Eric's place?
Buy the 6800. I was really tempted to bid for the 4800 once more, since right now it's at $419. Which is a huge saving.... But I can't deal with it anymore. I am STILL getting a great price on a decent camera (All the serious dig.cam sites say this camera would be great if it didn't cost so much....) Retail price is $900 US. I'm paying 562+20ship/handling. When it's all said and done, I'm getting a good deal. I HOPE! Why can't you come the same time Justin comes up? Is it too late to book on the same flight? Then I don't have to make 2 trips. :P

Okay, I'm completely decided. For an extra $100, I get some more cool features that I'd like to have. It's for nothing more than bragging rights. The $100 is a lot of money still, however, spread between even 2 yrs, it's worth the $$. Afterall, if I can double my recording capacity, then why not? Besides, the pix will be even more vibrant, even more detailed. It's great if I want to take some REALLY nice pix. For the most part this will strictly be a way to put photos on the web, but I do love gadgets, and for the price of the cam, it's worth it. Of course, where does one stop? If it's only $100 more, then maybe another $100 will even get me a better cam, etc, etc. Until it gets out of hand..... I have decided. Please don't ask me or wait anymore. wait. The difference between the 6800 and 4800 is $108 CAD, even with the exchange being 1.6% Link The dif. between the 2 cameras is firstly, resolution. It's a 3.3mp camera. Movie / audio capture time doubles - a whooping 2.6 min of video & audio, and 60 minute of audio capture. Battery lasts 250 shots with no LCD and only flash half the time..... This sound pretty good. Do I really need these features? No. Other than that, there's no other reason to get it. But! It's only an extra $150 CAD. This cam will last me for a long time, maybe it's worth getting that instead? Damn, I can't decided kids.

Dan, get the cam. Like I'm ready to buy now. If you get a chance, and it's a 1800#, can you ask about international warranty and see if it exists? The $100 rebate only applied to the Finepix 4700z, 4900, and 6800. Or something flaky. Every camera model EXCEPT 4800z. Figures. So, when it's all said and done, I'm saving $300 on the camera & memory, which is worth waiting the extra month for. If you want to wait another several days to find a better deal, or better yet, find a day where the exchange rate is lower, that'll even be better. first off, happy birthday to Ivan, even tho he doesnt read this anymore (i think). i cant believe he's 17. hey who says i didnt want that camera? :) anyway, sitting here at work. kinda tired cuz i was up til 3 last night playing GT at a friends house. i had no idea how addictive that game is, considering its like 4 years old now. i played GT3 at a toy store last week, and even tho the original GT graphics suck in comparison, it was still a lot of fun. i stink at driving games tho, but we had some pretty good races. watching the replays was the best.

ok, as of now buydig seems to be the way to go. however, there is still a bit of a time cushion to keep looking around some more, although the chances of finding a better deal than that is somewhat slim at this point. anyway, some random things... last night, i was talking to a friend whos in korea right now who just got an offer to be a reporter for some major broadcasting station, and she was all confused about whether or not to consider it. that sparked me to look up a band called Walking Limbs, and boy i was blown away. i told Justin about this before, i believe. a couple years back i was asked to join/help out with that band through my friend who used to be their drummer. although it wouldve been (and still is) beyond my wildest dreams to play in a band for a living, it didnt seem practical at the time since there were a lot of uncertainties, so i never showed too much outward interest. as it turned out, my friend dropped out to go to seminary, so it was just the other two guys left. since then, they have already put out a full lenght CD, as well as a secured national distribution deal. are they that huge? nah, otherwise you would've heard of them by now. still, im here looking at their website and thinking, man, i couldve been a part of all this. ok, i know i said "some random things" but ive since forgotten what the other random thing(s) are/is, so i guess this is it for now. ill post later if/when my train of thought returns.

However, after several calls and emails, he got his stuff. I don't think it's worth the hassle of frantically calling every day to save a lousy $30 bucks. Well maybe it is... :) I mean, money doesn't grow on trees. But this being my very first internet purchase (magazine subscriptions don't count), I want it to be as painless as possible. If the bid doesn't pan out, (remember max price is $429 US) then please go ahead and order the camera from buydig.com And confirmed, buy the SmartMedia card with coupon. You guys are the best..... just took a look at tristate... the shipping seems a bit fishy to me. they have FedEx 2-day and FedEx overnight available, but the ground shipping is just left as "ground". also, they tell you to wait 2 days before asking for a tracking number.. the point of that, i have no idea. they have a toll-free number so i can call them up tomorrow and ask for more info. in the meantime, the vague shipping info seems kinda sketchy to me. i havent had the chance to do any extensive research on the site itself. its getting a bit late, ill have to do that sometime tomorrow. ok, let me know if im missing anything or forgot to respond to anything here. Hi all, I'm all juiced up on getting the camera now. The Nikon Coolpix 950 is a decent camera, however, it's a big camera by camparison. One of my prerequsites must be ultra compact, and the coolpix isn't. Plus it's butt style ugly, especially with this flip feature. I appreciate the searching, but I've done a little bit of internet snooping, and this is the cam I want. Here's a better price However, I wanted to buy it at buydig.com because I read somewhere that it is a fairly reliable online store. I've seen better prices, but when I did some internet searches, the service was horrible: i.e. it would take 3 months to get the camera, and it was a grey market product; Chinese manuals and all that.... horrible. If you can find some company info on tristatecamera, that's great. If it sounds good, then that's even a better price!! But I need the camera by the time you come up. So I need reliable delivery date as well as a good price. Buydig.com so far is the best! Can someone order the 64 meg card for me first? It is a great deal. No one can come close to touching that in T.O., or on other internet sites. I'm determined to get this camera, so get the card. As you probably guessed, my camera knowledge is nil. I just got back in last night. I'm pretty much flat broke after the trip, so Toronto will have to be some time next year. I talked about it with my Dad, and he thinks it's a cool idea. Just got to coordinate the timing with Dan and also find some money sources. More in general, I was thinking about taking up daytrading, but I doubt if I have time to play out the risks. Anyone else tried it out yet? One of my college friends made 40 grand in a week, and I got to admit that caught my interest. Well, that's an understatement. Course, I again need some money to invest, so it's a long way off either way. Wooah.
as far as the Viking SSFDC3/64 64 MB SmartMedia Card goes, i searched for it on pricewatch (very well could be the most reliable price comparison site out there) and the best price combo was $55 + $7 shipping. i found coupon code "JUNSUMMERTHY" to get $5 off $35 at amazon, which almost exactly eliminates shipping charges (came out to being $5.10 for me) so you get the card for about $45 straight up. not too shabby. i will let you know if i find it for a better price. a note on the fuji cam... pricewatch lists $494 as its lowest price, so the deal you found is good by the general public's standards, but wouldn't pass as a compelling buy. gimme a few days to see if there's anything better out there. one last thing... possible alternative to the fuji 4800? Nikon - Coolpix 950 - read specs here.
sorry it took a few days for me to respond. i was out of town for the weekend. credit card orders usually get turned down if the cardholder's name and address dont match. its for security purposes, i guess. as far as finding a better deal on this particular camera, it's hard to say. im not a wizard of anything, let alone internet deals, so it's no guarantee that i can find the same deal for a better price. if you want one that's comparable to it, i might have a better shot at coming up with something. there happens to be a deal up right now on DU (i didnt post it, and its not intended to be a response to your request), but it's not as good as the one you want, and the deal ends at the end of today. if you want it, let me know. either way, i'm still looking around for the one you want. as far as visiting toronto, i havent gotten a clear answer from parents yet. plane ticket shouldnt be a problem, since i think my dad has more than enough frequent flyer miles to send me around the world several times (ok, slight exaggeration, perhaps), but two kinda-big factors stand in the way: 1) the money ill be spending for/during the trip, and 2) the possibility of missing classes. i havent registered for classes yet so i dont know my schedule, and although missing class is no big deal for me, its not quite as ok for my parents.
about eric's camera: dan, tell me if you can get a cheaper price. if not i can get it. eric, just curious, how come you don't get it yourself (avec ta propre carte de crédit) and just ship to my address or something???

But he did get an extra battery, but still, when it's all said and done, this is the best deal I could find for this particular camera.
