[Edited for grammar and stuff]
I live in Geekville, I know this now. Everyone I know is a complete geek, I mean everyone; especially the guys I hang out with at lunch. Four seemingly normal indivuduals, all heterosexuals (I think), and what do we talk about when we get together for grub?! Work. That's right. We have nothing better to talk about other than the inner workings of the Company, or things related to work. Now I'll be the first to admit I started it by complaining about my lack of understanding with what I'm doing right now, so I'm not blameless. But why can't we talk about something else, like sports, cars, or even girls? Well, especially girls.... Because we're geeks, we nerds, we're socially challenged. We're victims of our environment, shaped by our jobs and career choices to be pimply skinny geeks staring at the monitor for at least 12 hours a day. It's not our fault dang it! We're as much a victim as the next guy with a pocket protector and tape on his glasses. But that is who we are. We're not happy if we don't debate the comedy styling of each other's code. We're not content if we don't stress over the latest upper management's decisions into steering the Company into the ground. In short, we're happy to be geeks. Well I ain't. Not one bit. The last thing I want at lunch is to think about work. I already do it 23 hours a day. Let me enjoy my food and think about the Leafs or Raptors. Please. Give me a break! ....thanks for letting me rant. Now be quiet while I start to compile my bastard two lines of inadequate C. |
