One of the most arduous sport of the last millennium has got to be Dodge Ball; of which I happen to excel at.
Now, I haven't played competitive dodge ball in about 16 years (okay, I haven't played at all since then), but as I recall, in grade 6, I was a wily player, always one of the last one or two person left on the court at any given time. Although my throwing ability wasn't "Top Gun", my ability to keep from being hit was. I put the dodge in dodgeball baby! I was loved by many, and reverred by all as someone who could outlast the competition. The opposition's hurlers would know that if I wasn't taken out ASAP, I would generally last longer than them, while depending on my mates on the opposition's back line to hit the others. Oh man, how I shined in my glory days. I heard some disturbing news today on the radio. They want to BAN dodgeball from the schools and playgrounds, because it promoted aggressive behaviour and encouraged the strong picking on the weak. Umm... excuse me? What's wrong with that? Our whole civilization is built on preying the weak, it's not about to change because we banned dodgeball from the schools. What weed are they smoking? I really wish there was a professional dodgeball league, much like the NHL or NFL. I can see it: NDL!! ....and I would be paid millions of dollars to play a game I love. What a novel idea. |
