I had an "eureka" the other day, and am only sharing with you now. I think I have single-handedly solved the e-commerce/online shopping problem. Why aren't online shops making money? Simple, no one's buying. Fine, who has the most disposable income? 18-25? They like to think that, but let's be honest, they're either still in school, or just out of school, in which case, they're still trying to pay off their student loans. 26-34? Sure, the bulk of the $$$ is made by people at this age, but really, this is the time to start saving for cars/house/marriage. Okay, okay impatient reader. The age bracket that has the most dollars to spend is 50+ people. Think. Their kids are probably grown up, so don't need support. Yet they are established enough that they have the money to splurge. So why oh why, are people NOT spending their money via online shopping.

BIGGER FONTS

Yes, that's right. That's what websites need. I was at Toyota's website the other day, on a 17 inch monitor, running at 1024x768, trying to show a 50 year old gentleman some of the newer Toyotas. He was squinting and adjusting his bi-focals up and down, side to side. It was rather comical; but to be frank, I had a hard time reading it myself. Look, most 50 year olds aren't very computer literate to begin with (no offence, but back when they were young, computers weren't as widespread). So, you have to scare them off with technology, AND you're making it hard to read?? What's with that?

Hence, I vow to use bigger fonts in my blogs. And I think if webpages were made with less doo-dads, but more legible, then maybe, just maybe, the older folks with the money won't be so scared to surf. If they're comfortable with surfing, then perhaps they'll finally start using that mythical button ---> Click to add to your cart.
