Dan’s first season at Ashley’s Palace came in 2007 where he finished 23rd in points. In his first season, he scored one of the big wins at the Coca Cola 600. Dan is captain of the Gibbs Fan Squad.

For 2008, he'd win 3 cup races this year, yet again scoring another big cup win with the Sharpie 500, though finish higher in points as he'd finish 12th, 60 points ahead of 13th. He also go on to win his first Nationwide race with the Emerson Radio 250. His strongest point would be the truck series as he'd win his first a racet Texas on the road to a total of 4 truck wins for the year and a points championship, 6 points ahead of 2nd. Though he left his mark in the ARCA Series as he won 2 races including Daytona and in the West Series with it's first year as he won 2 races with those being All American Speedway and Douglas.
In the 2008 Chase, Dan had a disappointing time as he finished last in the Cup Chase, yet did better in the Truck Chase as he finished 4th with a win in the Camping World RV Rental 200.
