The Fifty Worlds: NPCs

Marcus Anulinus Pulcher

Exactly how a Roman soldier comes to be in this campaign depends on what time it is on Earth. If now is the Roman period, he just travelled here. If now is later than the Roman period, he travelled here but took his time. If now is earlier than the Roman period, Pulcher is not in the campaign. There will be someone similar, but his name will not be Marcus Anulinus Pulcher.

Marcus Anulinus Pulcher is a Roman Military Tribune of Equestrian rank. He is dashingly handsome.

[AD&D-Specific:] Marcus Anulinus Pulcher, human male, Str 16 Dex 14 Con 15 Int 13 Wis 14 Cha 17 Align NG Hp 106. Fighter, level 14.

Pulcher has the Hit point bonus, already included in the listed total. His traits include Allure.

Pulcher is nominally in charge of a marines legion. The legion itself does not appear in the campaign - it is back on Earth. Pulcher's family background is political, not naval, so the legion is probably better off without him. He is much more effective as a 007-style special agent than he would be commanding a legion.

Pulcher is a friend of Aurelius, and also nominally his commanding officer. Pulcher is relatively loyal to Rome and to the Solar Cult, but accepts that Aurelius now has his own duties which take precedence to serving Rome and the legion. They now go their separate ways, but their paths cross from time to time.

It is generally believed that Aurelia is Pulcher's illegitimate daughter, fathered while he was still a bachelor. Pulcher certainly believes it.

Pulcher's wife, Vettia Anulina, is manifestly an exotic oriental. Before they were married, she kept her religion (and her spellcasting powers) secret from Pulcher.

[AD&D-Specific:] Vettia Anulina, human female, Str 13 Dex 15 Con 15 Int 16 Wis 16 Cha 15 Align NG Hp 50. Multi-class Priestess (of Isis), level 11; Transmuter, level 12.

As a priestess of Isis, Vettia Anulina has 55% magic resistance and never fails saving throws against magical attacks. She cannot turn undead.

Vettia Anulina has the Secret doors ability, which suggests elven ancestry somewhere along the line.

Anulina Titia is Anulinus Pulcher's younger sister. Titia is trained as a spy, and has the benefits and hindrances of the spy kit. She is the real brains of the Anulinus family, but tries to make sure that her brother thinks he makes the decisions.

[AD&D-Specific:] Anulina Titia, human female, Str 13 Dex 15 Con 14 Int 17 Wis 13 Cha 17 Align NG Hp 53. Dual-class Thief, level 10; Enchantress, level 14.

Like her brother, Titia's traits include Allure.

Titia has the psionic wild talent of metamorphosis. This suggests that she is related to Aurelius, who has the same psionic wild talent. No-one knows of any certain genealogical connection between them, but Aurelius's ancestors were slaves of the Anulinus family for several generations, and there was a lot of cross-breeding between them.

As relatively recent immigrants to the Fifty Worlds, the Anulini have fewer magical gadgets than one would expect for adventurers of their level.

The Fifty Worlds campaign in general, and the city of Omnatia in particular, are awash with spies. But most of them are subtle, cloak-and-dagger spies like Anulina Titia.

If you want someone to perform heroic 007-style special agent stuff, Marcus Anulinus Pulcher is your man.

The Anulini can turn up anywhere in the Fifty Worlds, but the most likely place to find them is Omnatia.
