This setting is in the mountains. It can get very cold at times. It is currently close to midsummer, and mid-afternoon, and the bright sunlight means that it doesn't feel all that cold. Outdoors, after dark, the temperature drops dramatically in the clear mountain air. It is, of course, even colder in winter.
There is a pass through the mountains, leading between a tavern and a temple. The tavern is suitable for all adventuring classes. The temple is not an adventuring setting in itself. As the character descends, he/she finds this path and has to make the choice.
West leads to the temple, which I haven't written up yet.
East leads to the Tavern.
