The Fifty Worlds

Bulwark

This time, when you walk between the stones, you don't emerge in the open air. Instead, you emerge into the corridor of a castle.

The castle guards don't seem to be pleased by your sudden appearance. Unfortunately, you can't understand a word they're saying, and they can't understand you either.

However, the way they're pointing long pointy things in your direction gets the message across pretty effectively. You're under arrest.

For reference, the local name of the castle is completely unpronounceable. Translated into English, it means Bulwark.

You spend an uncomfortable night in jail. In the morning, the guards with the long pointy things reappear, together with someone who has obviously come to interrogate you. Since you can't understand a word he's saying, and he clearly can't understand you either, you don't get very far.

The interrogator goes away to think about this, and comes back an hour later. The guards, pointing their long pointy things at you, direct you out of the castle into a coach. The interrogator and two of the guards sit with you in the coach, and it's clear that at least two more guards are sitting on top of the coach.

The coach journey is very long and very uncomfortable, particularly for you, as you're starting to feel very unwell. Maybe it was something you ate.

In other circumstances, you might do something adventurous, like open the coach door and leap out. As things are, you just wait for the nightmare coach journey to end.

Eventually it does, and you, your interrogator, and the guards emerge from the coach.
