Now, About ME - PROFESSIONAL:

EXPERIENCE SUMMARY:

Mr. Ashit Sarkar leads an active retired life mostly, but at times continues with interesting assignments as a Management Advisor & Consultant - having over 47 years of professional career and rich experience - mostly in ITC Limited and Britannia Industries Ltd. - the two major multinational giant FMCG market leaders in India - starting in ITC's manufacturing plants/factories in the Production function, and then after twenty years moving to Personnel/HR management at the factory followed with managing from the Corporate Head Office, and finally retiring as Senior Vice President - Human Resource. The service life included membership of the Managing & Executive Committees, Managing Trustee of Retiral Funds, a short overseas posting, and considerable interaction with the overseas partners to develop organizational relationship - mostly in HR areas. Post retirement from Britannia in 1992, he spent two years in The Assam Company - the premier tea company started by the East India Company, to restructure their HR systems. Thereafter, the next three exciting years with IFB Industries Limited for a total revamp of their HR function and systems most successfully. However, no rest for him, as he was recalled by Britannia once again for another three years from Jan 1997 to early 2000 to take charge of the HR function during their spectacular growth & expansion phase, before hanging up his boots!

He was invited by a Swedish & UK based joint venture group of Companies in India The Tega Group/Hosch (GB) Ltd UK to be a Non Executive Director in 1992, and he remained involved with them for over eight years.

Mr. Sarkar has been connected with many professional bodies like NIPM (National Institute of Personnel Management), AIMA (All India Management Association), EFI (Employers Federation of India), GMCC (Greater Mysore Chamber of Commerce), BMA (Bangalore Management Association), FKCCI (Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce & Industry), and AIMO (All India Manufacturers Organisation) etc., often in their Executive Committees from time to time. In particular he has been specially involved continually as an Advisor/Member of the Executive Committee of the Karnataka Chapter of NIPM from 1999. He represented the Indian employers (being nominated by the Government of India) at Geneva as a member of the ILO's Second Food & Drinks Committee (1991-96). He is currently an advisor to the AIMO on all labour issues. He was based in many different locations in India, & briefly abroad, and had regularly and widely travelled to Europe, USA, Gulf & the Far East, both for professional purposes and assignments, as well as to meet personal commitments. He was involved in Management Development activities for well over 20 years, and has specialized in the restructuring of the Management Compensation system - especially as he was a member of the multi-national RemClub (HR Heads of 15 major Multinationals in India) for almost two decades. Additionally, for a short while, he was an examiner with the Department of Management Studies of The Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, for Ph.D. students in Personnel Management. Many of his articles have been published in reputed journals, books or papers, and he has made many presentations, and given a large number of talks at various professional Seminars, Workshops & other forums, including to the management students in their institutions (links to some of them are given later - in 'Published Articles').

Mr. Sarkar is a keen photographer, enjoys people interaction, travel, reading & music, and is also involved with many philanthropic & welfare organisations. He is a life member of The World Wildlife Fund, Alzheimer Association of West Bengal and the Cheshire Homes, India. His late interests in assembling his own PC and in self-learning html to develop this Homepage, enlarged his pastime to computing, internet and related issues during his retirement - purely as an amateur. These provide him with hours of enjoyment on his PC!
