Leonardo da Vinci:  Last Supper (c. 1495-1497)

Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper (c. 1495-1497) decorates the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. The oil tempera mixture that Leonardo used did not adhere well to the wall, causing the mural to deteriorate, and it has been heavily restored. The scene depicts the consternation among Christ's disciples at the moment immediately following his dramatic announcement that "One of you shall betray me"
