| The Mellstock Band Leaves of Life The Mellstock Band’s concert for us in 2005 was such a success that we are now bringing this popular group to a larger venue (The Regal). The Band takes its name from the works of Thomas Hardy, who gave this fictional title to the singers and musicians of the Dorset village of Stinsford, where Hardy himself played. With their authentic instruments and songs, the Mellstock Band play the versions of the fiddle, concertina, clarinet, flute and oboe that would have been current in Hardy’s time. ‘Leaves of Life’ is their new Christmas programme, combining traditional west gallery music and folk carols with festive music, poetry and stories. www.mellstockband.com is worth a look. |
