This web site is a tribute to one of the most prolific inboard hydroplane drivers in the past 50 years. We hope you spend a little time with us and reminisce about the racing career of a true hydroplane legend. Art began his racing career in 1948 and drove throughout the racing circles in many different classes. In 1957, driving the unlimited hydroplane, Miss Supertest II, he set a new World Speed Record in the straightaway, averaging 184.54 mph for the 2 runs required to set the record. This still stands as a Canadian Water Speed Record today; over forty-six years, a record in itself! Art was a driver to be reckoned with, especially within the limited class inboard hydroplanes. He has accumulated many championships throughout his illustrious career. During that time, Art went on to set many competitive and straightaway World, Canadian, and American speed records. Art was also very instrumental in the design of safety equipment. Most notably, the lifejacket improvements he was intent upon achieving. Art's ideas were credited with saving lives. Please spend some time with us celebrating the career of one of hydroplane racing's finest. We hope you enjoy visiting Art Asbury's tribute.
