I travelled to Southern
Africa in the summer of 1997 with three friends. We borrowed
a 4WD vehicle and drove across three countries, camping each
night wherever we happened to be. It was sublime.
We were based in Francistown,
the old colonial captial, which has now been surpassed by Gaborone
as the political capital. From here we visited Nada, a small
village on the road to Maun. Then, from Maun to the Okavango
Delta where we glided through the swamps in a mokoro raft, beside
hippos and crocodiles. This was one of the most serene experiences
of my entire life, just so incredible.
Next was a long drive through
the salt pans and beyond to the border with Zimbabwe. |
