Chapter 5

The day at the recording studio seemed endless. Nicky was finished early, as was Kian, and the two of them left for the hotel together. Shane felt a bit uneasy, he’d have preferred Nicky to stay, but on the other hand he felt safe with Mark and Bryan. As far as he knew they weren’t out to get him.

When the day was finally over Shane was glad to rush back to he hotel and into the room he shared with Nicky. He wanted to make sure he didn’t run into Kian or anything.

Well, Kian was in the room, with Nicky, luckily.

"Shay," Nicky rose from the sofa and walked over to put an arm around him.

Shane smiled, "Hi Ki," he tried to sound casual but doubted it worked.

"Hi," Kian said shortly, his gaze directed at the television.

Shane desperately tried to act normal and sat down on the sofa, Nicky sitting in between him and Kian. He didn’t exactly want to give Ki – well, the bad spirit – the advantage of knowing Shane was terrified of him.

Shane was glad they were watching the television and there was no need for casual conversation. He wasn’t sure how to handle the whole thing with bearing a spirit that would save the world in a few centuries. Especially not when the spirit within Kian wanted to kill him for it. Needless to say, he was more than happy when Kian announced that he’d be going back to his own room and catch up on his sleep a little.

So, it was only Shane and Nicky again. Nicky seemed pre- occupied with something, so Shane just sat there and did nothing much. Well, he studied Nicky actually. He seemed to be in another world.

Nicky came back to reality and smiled at Shane. Shane smiled back, voting against asking Nicky what he had been doing. If it concerned him, Nicky would tell him, if it didn’t… well, then it was unimportant anyway.

"I think somebody wants to meet you…" Nicky said finally.

Shane rose an eyebrow, "Who?"

Nicky had one of those annoying grins plastered on his face. "Our Lady," he said, somewhat quizzically.

"Huh?" Shane was tired of mind games; Nicky reminded him of… well, some superior spirit maybe.

Nicky laughed slightly at the look on Shane’s face. He obviously enjoyed all this teasing. "Cliodhna… She’ll most probably be sent as a representative of the higher forces."

"Ah," Shane still wasn’t really sure what this was all about.

Nicky moved a bit closer to Shane; "She’s a beautiful woman…" he winked, knowing damn well that Shane didn’t care. He put his hand on Shane’s arm, "Nah, seriously, try to make a good impression and if she asks I’m taking great care of you, yeah?"

Shane smiled, "Sure."

"Good, let’s go to sleep… we have a long day tomorrow…"
