Shane was silent for a while and Nicky let it sink in. He finally looked up at Nicky; "You’re joking me?" Nicky caught Shane’s gaze and saw how he recoiled and shook his head, "You’re not…" he stated quietly.

"No." Nicky said shortly.

"So… there’s an evil spirit within Kian. But… why do you have to protect me? There’s always more lives to come…?"

Nicky reached for Shane’s hand. "You see Shane, it’s not that simple. If Kian successfully gets his revenge, the devil will be in possession of your soul. He’s not going to give you any more lives. You’ll be taken to his forth, for his enjoyment." Shane was quiet again. "You see, your soul’s very special. In just a few centuries, you’re destined to fight for the good and save the world from the evil. If you’re defeated now, the world will be taken over by evil in 4 centuries."

"Wow." Shane said with a slight smile.

Nicky smiled too, "Don’t let it get to your head now!"

Shane laughed, then turned serious. "So, what exactly are we fighting for?"

"If we succeed we’ll get Kian back to normal, as well as having saved you and still have a strong card to play in the 2400’s."

Shane looked at him. "And, if we fail?"

Nicky sighed. "Kian’s soul will stay property of the evil and they’ll get yours too. You’ll be kept in their kingdom and in 2400 you’ll be their strong card when they take over the world. I’d say by then you’ve served your purpose and they will kill you, because you’re too strong for them to take you over completely, and a few centuries later you would have turned back to the good and rescued the world from the evil anyway, which they don’t want to happen."

"They’ll kill me?" Shane looked confused and Nicky laughed.

"You’re mortal Shane, it’s your spirit that lives on…"

"Yeah, but, they can’t kill a spirit?"

"Nope, but they can capture it." Shane nodded and tried to look like he understood everything, though he still wasn’t sure of some parts.

Nicky wasn’t easily fooled. "I think you need to sleep Shane. We’ll talk about it all tomorrow, and I’ll brief you and all the rules and teach you some things." Shane nodded with a sigh, agreeing that he was tired and climbing into bed, falling asleep almost immediately. It took Nicky a while longer to get to sleep, he was calling upon a higher force to help him get Shane to understand...
