This is my attempt at a comprehensive listing of slash related words. Includes slash, fanfic, fetish, bdsm, and general sex specific words. Also lists some popular abbrevations. If you've got a word that's not in here, feel free to e-mail it to me! Oh, and, beware, some of the entries are a little hard to stomach...

69 - Position often used during oral sex. Basically, the two people involved lie so that they both face the other persons privates. Also popular for rimming.

Adult Babies, AB's, infantilists - People who get erotic and emotional pleasure from acting like babies and being taken care of.

Age Play - When one partner assumes the role of an adult and the other the role of a child.

Age Statement - Often required to join slash mailinglists. It's a statement from you that you are old enough to view adult material.

Archive Fic - A piece of fiction which revolves around the author's real life.

Areola - The dark ring of skin around the nipple.

Animal Play - When one partner takes on the role of an animal and the other the role of an animal trainer. Includes ponyplay and dogplay.

Angst - In an angst story one or more characters are in a very stressful or deeply emotional situation. Often include scenes where the character is deeply depressed, and this characters depression is the main element of the story.

A/U, Alternate Universe - Fanfic were the story universe is radically changed from that of reality. E.g If in a story the lads weren't in Westlife, or the Westlife line-up was different, this would be an A/U story.

Badfic - Story that is instentionally written to be bad. Usually those are done to amuse - or to parody frequent errors/crimes against slash.

BBS - Boy Band Slash. Slash about boy band members!

B&D, B/D, bd, BD, Bondage & Domination or Bondage & Discipline - Often used interchangably with d&s and s&m, although some people refer to b&d as bondage without pain, or without defined/static power roles.

bdsm, BDSM - Contains elements of b&d, d&s and/or s&m [Bondage, Discipline, Dominance, Submission, Sadism, Masochism].

Bear - Usually a hairy, cigar smoking, large-sized man (often gay).

Beastiality - Sex with animals.

Beta - To proof read a story. (Which, I may add, is an essential thing to do before posting it!)

Beta Reader - Someone who offers to proofread stories for other authors.

Beta Version - Original draft of a story.

Bi-Kinky - A heterosexual who is willing to do SM with same-sex partners.

Bi-Possible - A heterosexual who may be willing to explore bisexual scenarios in a power dynamic.

Biological Female/Male - Refers to someone's sex at birth.

Bisexual - A person that is attracted to both sexes.

Black Party - A party, often held at a gay leather club, which may only be attended by people in black (preferably leather) clothes.

Blood-Sport - SM play which involves cutting, piercing and any other ways of intentionally drawing blood.

Body Modification - Includes, but not limited to, tattooing, branding, corsetting, piercing, and cutting.

Body Service - (BDSM Specific) When a submissive takes care of all the dominant's grooming and hygiene needs.

Body Worhip - Oral service by a submissive to a dominant, without inhibitions about contact with any body part.

Boot-Boy - A submissive male who has a fetish for leather boots worn by tops.

Bottom - The person on the receiving end of anal sex or pain/bondage in an SM scene.

Boy - Often used to refer to a male submissive. In the leather world, it also refers to the submissive partner in a Daddy/boy relationship. Also used by lesbians to refer to a male-identified (but biologically female) bottom.

Breath Control - Play in which the top contrains the bottoms ability to breathe for a short interval.

Brown Showers - The act of expelling on a person's body.

Butch - Usually a lesbian who expresses a male identity, but can mean a mannish female. Also refers to the top in a leather relationship.

CBT, Cock-and-Ball Torture - Sadistic play with male genetalia.

Challenge - When someone sets a theme/ guideline for a story and invites other authors to write a story about it. Examples include giving a few words, or writing the opening paragraph. Stories written as a result of those challenges are refereed to as "challenge responses".

Chanslash - Story where the younger member of the pairing is under the age of consent. "Chan" is a Japanese phrase translating to "sweetie", "little one" or "dear."

Character Death - Warning placed in the header of the story indicating that one of the main characters dies in the story.

Collaring - Ceremony in which a submissive formally accepts the dominants collar. The BDSM equivalent of a wedding, often attended by friends.

Consensual - Sex performed with the agreement of all partners involved.

Constructive Criticism - Feedback to a story that is helpful for the author. More than just "Love the story, keep it up" - often points out bad points as well as good points, like spelling and grammar mistakes, poor pairings etc.

Crime Scene - Menstrual blood play.

Crossdresser - See Transvestite

Crossover, XO, X/O, C/O - A crossover story involves characters of more than one fandom. E.g If one of the members of Westlife dated a member of Boyzone, the Backstreet Boys, *NSync etc, the story would be a crossover.

Daddy - A dominant who assumes a mentoral/paternal role with a submissive, and in doing so expresses a masculine identity.

Derivative Fiction - Works based on another. Includes fiction based on another story or a book, TV Show, movie, comic etc.

Disclaimer - For legal reasons, those are put into story headers to make it clear that the author is not making profit from the story, that they do not know/own the characters and have not recieved permission to write the story about them.

Dildo- Artificial penis used in sexual activity.

Drabble - Story which contains exactly 100 words, no more, no less.

Dominant - A person who assumes sexual control over a partner.

Domination - Exercise of sexual domination over another, by physical and/or psychological means.

Dominatrix - A dominant female.

D&S, D/S, ds, DS, Dominance & Submission - Element of bdsm often involving Master/slave domination games. In a D/s relationship, one or more partner(s) achives pleasure from taking control (dominant), while the other partner(s) gains pleasure from being controlled (submissive). Sometimes referred to as 'power relationships'.

Dungeon - Any space, private or public, which is set aside for SM activity and furnished with SM equipment.

Edgeplay - SM play which is on the "edge" of safety.

Electroplay, Electrotorture - Using electric devices for sexual stimulation.

Gay - see Homosexual.

Gen - A story with a heterosexual pairing. Sometimes used to refer to a story centered around a m/m or f/f friendship, as opposed to a sexual/erotic relationship.

Erotica - Morally superior version of pornography. Erotica is often less graphic than porn, and will emphatise more on the context, plot and characterisation, rather than the actual sex.

FA, Fat Admirer - A person who has a fetish for overweight/obese people. See also feeder.

Fandom - Fan activities, including fan fiction, fan art, mailinglists, forums etc., that takes place around a particular music group, artist, Tv show, movie etc. Can also refer to the community itself - i.e the fans that have drawn around a particular fandom.

Fan Fiction Hall of Shame - A site which brings attention to stories with especially horrendous spelling and grammar, character assassinations, cliches, and just generally bad writing. Can be good for showing people where they could improve as writers, though a lot of people just think they're mean-hearted.

Fanon - Something that has little or no roots in reality, but is used so widely in stories in a fandom that the fans in this fandom has come to accept it as a "fact". For example, I've actually never seen Kian stick his tongue out when he's concentrating (forgive me if I'm wrong!), but he commonly does it in fanfics.

Feedback - Response by a reader to a story. Points out particularly good points in the story and is often very appreciated by the author. See also Constructive Critiscism.

Feeder - A dominating person who actively encourages their person to gain weight and derives setisfaction from watching them consume large quantities of food. See also Fat Admirer.

Felching - Consuming the semen after anal sex. (urgh!)

Fellatio - Stimulation of the penis with the mouth – Also Oral Sex, "blow job", "giving head","giving mouth".

Femme - Usually refers to a feminine lesbian; ie a gay or bisexual female who outwardly conforms to conventional female rold models. Also "lipstick lesbian".

Femme-dom - A female dominant, usually toppoing a male submissive.

Femslash - F/F (lesbian) slash stories.

Fetish, Fetishes - Unusual/kinky sexual practices such as bdsm.

Filk - A song about a fannish topic - such a a particuar pairing. Can be created by changing the words of an already existing song, or by creating a new song (with music) from scratch.

First Time - Stories portraying the first romantic and/or sexual pairing of a couple.

Fisting - Slow insertion of a whole hand into the anus or vagina. Also fist fucking, FF, "handballing".

Flag, flagging - Use os coloured bandanas ("hankies" or "flags") to let others know what turns you on. Developed in the gay community, where colours correspond to different kinks. ALSO used in SM where dominant flag on the left and submissives on the right. Applies to all SM attire (for example, a dominant will always carry their whip on the left side of their belt)

Flame - Mean and ugly rants intended to hurt or piss people off, feedback that only spells out bad points in a story.

Fluff - Romance stories that does not contain any angst whatshowever.

Fluffy Angst - Stories that start out as heavy angst but have a very happy, and romantic, ending.

Foot worship, foot service - Oral service to bare feet.

Forced feminisation - When a dominatrix "forces" a submissive man into feminine clothes. (Refered to as forced even though it is consensual)

French Maid - Role-play where the submissive (male or female) dresses in a french maids uniform and performs household duties for the dominant. Also "sissy maid".

Frottage - Sexual pleasure from rubbing against another person.

Gafiate, Get Away From it All - To leave a fandom for a period of time for any particular reason. (Study, exams, having a baby, fed up with fan politics etc.)

Gender dysphoria - Clinical term for being unhappy with ones biological sex.

Gen Fen - Fans who prefer non-slash material, or people that are against slash full stop.

Genre - The category of a story, such as Romance, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Mystery, Humour, etc.

GS, Golden Showers - see Watersports

Gorean Master - A male dominant who adopts the style of life portrayed in the GOR books by John Norman.

(Story) Header - A header is placed before a fic, stating thing like it's title, author, pairing, fandom, disclaimer, summary, warning(s), special notes etc.

Head-play - Any kind of manipulation by which the dominant heightens an emotionally mosochist bottom's anticipation and fear, thereby intensifying the bottom's erotic response, and/or push them into deeper "sub-space". Also mind-play, mind games, head games, head tips, mind-fucking.

Het, Heterosexual - A person who is attracted only to persons of the opposite sex.

H/C, Hurt/ Comfort -If you didn’t guess, it’s where one of the characters get hurt and another comforts and/or protects him, often leading to sex. Usually, the reaction to one characters pain is the main element of the story.

HHJJ, happy happy joy joy - Often one of those sweet li'l stories wwe all need to take a break from the deep, emotional ones at times...

Homosexual - Person who is attracted only to members of the same sex.

Homophobia - Fear off, aversion to, or discrimanation against homosexuality.

Homophobic - A person with homophobia.

Incest - Sexual intercourse between closely related persons E.g. Father/Son, brothers, cousins etc.

Kajira - A slavegirl who attempts to live by the standards from the GOR books by John Norman.

Kink - Unusual sex habits, such as bdsm.

Kink-Friendly - A person who is not into kink but is nonetheless symphatetic and supportive of kinky people. Also refers to business which welcomes business from leather people.

Kink-Positive - Anything which portrays kinky sexual encounters in a positive light.

Kinkslash - A slash fic with any element of kink in it. (Eg bdsm)

LDR, Long-Distance Relationship - A couple who have a serious relationship despite living far away from eachother.

Leather Culture - Me and women who embrace the ethics, traditions and pride of open involvement in the leather Scene.

Leather Family - A surrogate, adult-only family comprising of lovers, friends and sometimes mentors who share compatible sexual interests.Such families often share deep commitments to one another due to their mutual commitment to all things leather.

Lemon - Anime specific - A story with hardcore descriptions of sexual acts.

Lime - Anime specific - A story with some smut but no actual penetrations or hardcore description.

List Mommy - The individual (a female) who runs and/or moderates a mailinglist.

Leathermen/ Leatherwomen - Refers specifixally to gay or lesbian leatherpeople.

Lifestylers - People who assume their dominant, submissive, top or bottom roles as a way of life by engaging in a role-based (but not necessarily BDSM specific) relationship.

Limits - A set of physical or emotional limits set by a submissive/bottom during negotiation for any kind of kinky play.
Hard Limits - The maximum edge of a negotiated limit.
Pushing Limits - Consent by the submissive for the dominant to push him or her slightly beyond a limit. May occur if a submissive believes a limit to stem from an irrational fear which they want to overcome.
Respecting Limits - The practice of abiding by limits and never violating a submissive by non-consensually pushing their limits.
Pushing Limits - When a dominant consensually guide submissives to stretch their limits in order to progress their submission.

List Sibling - Used by any member of a mailinglist to refer to fellow list members.

Lurker - A person who is subscribed to a mailinglist, and reads the messages but never take part in discussions on list.

M/M - A story involving two male characters (slash).

Mary Sue - Story containing a character that closely resembles the author, or the character which closely resembles the author.

Marty Stu - Male equivalent of a Mary Sue.

Master - A male dominant involved in a power exchange relationship with their partner(s).

Messy - A fetish for being covered with wet, messy seubstances such as mud, oil, gooey foods and body wastes.

Mind-games - See head-play.

Minor - A person who is under the age at which it is legal to have sex in their country.

Mistress - A female dominant involved in a power exchange relationship with their partner(s).

M-Preg - See pregnancy fic.

Multiple, multi, multiple partners - More than two people engaging in sexual activities together. e.g m/m/m, f/f/f, m/m/f, m/m/m/m etc.

Munch - A lunch or brunch, at a public restaurant, where kinky people can socialise in a low-key, "vanilla" setting.

Mundane - A non-fan, someone who may turn around to you and say "What is fanfiction?". Can also be used to refer to someone who's particularly clueless about kink and/or bdsm.

NC, Non Consensual - Sex that is performed without the consent of all partners involved.

NC- 17, adults only - Often contains explicit sex or language.

Necrophilia - Ingestion of blood (non-vampiric).

Negotiation - The process of reaching an agreement with an dult partner about the kind of relationship and play they will engage in, which may take a longer amount of time. Also "negotiating a scene", which refers specifically to negotiating the limits for scene.

Netiquette - Common courtesy that should be followed for the enjoyment of other fans in a fandom, or fellow listsibs. Some of it is just common sence that you would use anywhere on the net, other is following the rules that apply to a prticular list.

Newbie - Someone who is new to a fandom and/or mailinglist.

Pain Slut - A heavy masochist (male or female).

Pain Treshold - The point at which the pain ceases to pleasuse and becomes undesirable for a submissive or bottom.

Panty Training - When a dominant "forces" (with consent) a male submissive to wear female lingerie in order to humiliate him.

Ped - Sex story involving one or more minors.

Percussion play - Umbralla term for all kinds of striking, including whipping, caning, paddling, spanking, slapping and flogging.

Permanent Piercing - The implantation of body jewellery (eg a nipple ring). See also Play Piercing.

Pissing - The practice of influcting humiliation by pissing on someone (often element of bdsm).

Play - Kinky encounters.

Players - Lifestylers and people with Scene experience.
Heavy/Hardcore Players - Those who prefer SM play.

Play-Partner - A partner one has BDSM encouters with, without being in a committed relationship with that person.

Play Piercing - SM play in which needles or other piercing implements are temporarily inserted into the flesh, either for ritual or spiritual reasons, or for the erotic plasure the pain brings.

Play-Space, Play Room - A space regularly used for SM scenes. See also Dungeon.

Plot Bunny - A story idea, particularly one that comes at an unsuitable time.
Or, a story idea that hits you and then when you start writing it "breeds like a rabbit" - ie. It leads to A LOT more plot ideas that drive you crazy until you manage to get them all done.
Or, a story idea that the author has no plans to put into writing and gives away to anyone who would like to develop it.

Plushophile, Plushy - A person who has sex with stuffed animals.

Pregnancy Fic, M-preg- A fic where one of the male characters become pregnant.

Prostitute - Someone who gives sexual favors in exchange for money.

Ponyboy/Ponygirl - The submissive/bottom in animal play.

POV, Point of View - The perspective from which a story is narrated
First Person POV - told from one characters perspective (in the "I" form)
Third person POV - told as from an onlookers point of view ("he", "she", "they")

Porn, Pornography - Sexually explicit material.

Power Exchange - Consensual transfer of power by a submissive to a dominant. The exchange takes place when the returned energy from the dominant empowers the submissive.

Puppy - The submissive or bottom in an animal play relationship.

Pushy/Greedy Sub - Playful refernce to a submissive who likes a lot of play and therefore act naughty to get the dominant to take action. Can also refer to a submissive who push too hard and turn the dominant off.

PWP - Plot, what plot? or Porn Without a Plot - A SEX story, usually with no visible plotline.

R, Restricted - Non- explicit sex or language.

Rape - Sexual intercourse forced upon someone who is unwilling or unable to give consent.

Rape story - Obviously a story where one of the characters is raped. Often an element of h/c fics.

RL, Real Life - The boring stuff that goes on outside a fandom and usually is the reason why authors stop posting stories (or post a new chapter really late), archivists fall behind with their updates and sometimes even forces fans to leave the fandom.

Rimming - Stimulation of the anus with the mouth.

RR, Round Robin - A story written by a number off different authors. One author writes the first chapter, then others add a new chapter until everyone's had their turn. (The last person will close the fic with a final chapter).

RPS - Real Person Slash - Stories that are written about real people, as opposed to fictional characters. Slash about Westlife is RPS.

R/T - Rape/ Torture - Often seen in h/c fics.
R/T - Real Time - An internet ters which distingushes "real" (in the flesh) from online relationships.

Safe, Sane and (Mutually) Consensual - The fundamental ethical standard for kinky sex.

Safe Word - A word or expression agreed by partners by which a submissive/bottom can stop the action.
Safe Gesture - Substitute for a safe word, used if the submissive/bottom is gagged.

SAM - Smart Ass Masochist- A bottom/submissive who verbally teases and otherwise acts feisty, usually in order to extract punishment from a dominant.

Scat, scat play - Play which involves extrement.

Scene - Used as:
The Scene - Always capital S - The SM/fetish/leather worlds.
A scene - Always lower case s - A kink or fetish. (eg "Me scene is...")
A scene - Always lower-case s - A time-limited SM encounter. See also session.
To scene - "To do Sm". (Also scened, will be scening etc.)

Session - Often used as a synonym to scene, although some dominants differentiate a session as being punishment and a scene as being play (or sometimes the other way around).

Sharps - Any sharp objects such as knifes, rozors or scissors which are used consensually in SM play.

Ship - A strong, ongoing relationship between two characters.
Shipper, Relationshipper - Someone who is a fan of a particular paairing in a fandom.

Shonen-Ai - Anime specific - A male/male love story (focuses on emotions rather than sex).

Sho(u)io-Ai - Anime specific - A female/female love story (focuses on emotions rather than sex).

SI - Self-Insertion - Usually anime specific. See Mary-Sue/Marty-Stu

Sissy, Sissy Slut - A submissive male cross-dresser (but not neccesarily a transvestite).

Slash - Often sexual in nature (although it doesn't have to be), slash stories feature two or more characters of the same sex romantically or sexually involved with eachother. The term come from the punctuation used between the main characters (pairing). E.g Shane/ Kian (Shane – slash – Kian)

Slash Fen - People that prefer slash over general fanfiction, or people who supprt, read and actively encourage slash.

Slave - Someone who has made a commitment to surrender sexual (or total) control to a dominant.
Slave contract - A document written by the dominant and the submissive togather, in which the negotiated terms of the commitment/relationship is spelled out. May be time-limited or permanent.

S/M, s&m, sm, SM - Sadism and Masochism - Involves pain and humiliation. Sexual pleasure gained from inflicting and recieving pain. Always consensual, if it's non-consensual it's just sadism.

Smarm Fic - Centers around, or heavily emphatizes, the very close friend ship of the two main characters in a fic. Often involves verbal and/or physical expressions of love and/or affection.

Smut - A fic with sexually explicit material (porn).

Solo - Masturbation fic.

Song Fic - A story built around, or hevily inspired by, a song. Most often, the first verse of the song is written, then a bit of the story, the next bit of the song, more of the story etc. until the whole song has been used.

Squick - A personal dislike or turn-off in fan fiction, something that leaves you feeling a bit ill and queasy.

Subspace - A euphoric, detached state experienced by slaves during a scene with their dominant.

Summary, Teaser - A line or two, briefly describing the plot of the story.

Switch - Individual who can gain pleasure both as dominant and submissive in bdsm (someone that can "switch" roles). Can be someone who switches roles with oe partner, someone who is exclusively submissive to one partner but exclusively dominant to another (according to the natural dynamics between the partners), or someone who primarily takes one role and will switch only in special circumstances or with certain people.

The Community - Blanket term for the organised SM/fetish communities including leather clubs, SM venues, educational outreach groups, social clubs, and support groups.

Top - Person on the giving end of anal sex, or a person who administers pain in SM play.

Top's Disease - Used in SM circles to ferer to a dominant who's egos have grown too big. Often denotates a dominant who believes him/herself to have the right to dominate all submissives they come into contact with, or who believes themselves to be infallible.

Toys - Adult (sex) toys, particularly ones used for SM play.

TPE - Total Power Exchange - A lifestyle relationship in which the submissive consents to the dominant having power to make all descisions, sexual and otherwise.

Tranny Chasers - Male suitors of male-to-female cross dressers, or, sometimes, anyone with a fetish for transgenderism.

Transgendered/ Transgenderism - A person who enjoyes or needs to express the identintity of the opposite sex (by cross dressing and assuming sex/gender roles specific to the opposite sex).

Transvestite, TV, Cross-Dresser, X-dresser - A person who finds emotional and/or sexual satisfaction in wearing opposite-sex clothing.

Transexual, TS - Someone who believes themselves to have been born in the wrong-sex body.
Pre-op Transexual - A transexual who has taken steps towards sex change (such as hormone therapy), but has not yet undergone sex change surgery.
Post-op Transvestite - A transvestite who has undergone sex change surgery and is living as a full-fledged member of the opposite sex..

Troll - One of those sad people who do nothing much else but post flames and send out spam.

TT, Tit Torture - Sadistic play with nipples.

Universe - As opposed to "Alternate Universe", this refers to the 'reality' of a particular fandom - things that exist in the book, movie, TV show or whatever the fandom is about.

Urination - see pissing

UST - Unresolved sexual tension.

Vanilla - A non-kinky person or environment.

Verbal Abuse, VA - Cruel and mocking insults or threats used by sadistic tops to push an emotionally masochist bottom further into subspace.

Vignette - Short piece of writing, usually fictional, centering around a characters experiences, on a particular moment/point in the relationship of two (or more) characters, or about a moment in the character(s) life.

Warning - Usually included in the story header, this states particularly touchy content of the story, such as kink, bdsm, smut, fluff, PWP, three somes, four somes, five somes or even just plain old sex.

Water Sports, Golden Shower - Sexual practise of playing with or ingesting urine. Sometimes, water sports is used as an umbrella term covering all kinds of play involving body waste, while golden shower always denotates only urine play.

WITWD - What it is That We Do - A nonjudgemental way of refering to all elements of kinky sex.

X-dresser - See Transvestite

Xenophilia - Fetish for having sex with aliens.

XO - see crossover

Yaoi - Anime specific - A story which focuses on the sex (almost like a PWP) and always include hardcore descriptions.

Yuri - Anime specific - F/F sex story (anime version of femslash).
