A few books are suggested here as offering those who have read so far in this booklet an opportunity for further study. On the subject of general and descriptive astronomy may be mentioned.
“Astronomy”, Russell, Dugan and Stewart (two volumes). “General Astronomy“, H. Spencer-Jones.
“Astronomy”, W. M. Smart.
For those interested in studying some of the mathematics of the subject an excellent book is “Spherical Astronomy” , W. M. Smart.
A good star atlas showing about 8,000 objects, including all those visible to the naked eye, is “Norton’s Star Atlas”, A. P. Norton. [*27]
Several books are available locally on the subject of navigation and also a number of books containing tables for navigational computations. Satisfactory ones are;
“The Admiralty Navigation Manual” (three volumes).
“Astronomical Navigation” W. M. Smart.
“Air Navigation”, F. G. Brown.
“Hughes Tables for Sea and Air Navigation “, L. J. Comrie.
“Position Tables for Sea and Air Navigation”, F. G. Brown.
For those interested in establishing contacts with other people interested in Astronomy there is a branch of the British Astronomical Association in Sydney, and there are astronomical societies in other States. [*28]
