SAVE THE SCOTTISH REGIMENTS!

The following is excerpted From Scottish Life Magazine - Winter 2004:

In the most radical shake-up of the armed forces since the 19th century, Scotland's historic infantry regiments are to disappear in order to comply with the demand of the Treasury to create a single Scottish super-regiment to save money. The regiments involved are the Black Watch, Royal Scots, ARGYLL & SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDERS, Royal Highland Fusiliers, King's Own Scottish Borderers and Highlanders. In an attempt to sweeten the pill, the five battalions within the super-regiment will be given the names of the former regiments. While army chiefs tried to present the restructuring as "preserving and continuing the heritage of the existing regiments through the named battalions," critics say all that is being saved are the cap badges. A "Save the Scottish Regiments" group is campaigning against the cuts and is planning to field candidates against Labour at the next general election.

We here at the [recreated] 2nd Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders ("Princess Louise's") upon hearing of these plans are stunned & greatly saddened at the thought of our beloved Argylls, Black Watch (,etc.) being reduced to one single generic regiment. Please join us in saving the unique character of individuality, traditions & legacies of these proud regiments that have become legend and have helped to keep our world free!
