Clinging to the shadows
Thrown over thorn-torn faces
Until they’re hidden
And everything’s alright again
You catch the raindrops
And fling them into my laughing face
The joy- we used to be
Like moments that make my heart skip
And I’m lost within this all
Can you remember?
Being held so tenderly in my arms
I would kiss your sweet head
Laugh at you murmuring
And promise to always protect you
Can you remember that?
And that rose garden
The briars that yank at the skin
Caused the tears to rise from my eyes
But you stayed they bleeding and fed me comfort
Promising to always protect me
I remember that so well...
You catch me in your arms
A gentleness- so strong
And I won’t forget you
Even after I awake from this dream
I know- I can’t have you
But, somehow, even now
Through this life-
You’ve managed to save me
My protector, you don’t break promises
My mind breaks- heart aches
And I smile when I see that familiar light
Dancing in your eyes
