Innocence
You always were so quiet, Child
I’m always watching your tears
But I remember when I used to watch your smile
You always were so quiet, and I knew that you were listening
You always used to hold my hand, Child
You’d run here and there, so free, so wild
I know you trusted me
‘Cause not a day went by without you there by my side
Years come and years go
Innocence leaves us for something much more fun-
Lies and pain, bleeding and stains
‘Cause we need to grow up, we have to grow up
Tell me, where’s the fun
Of being the little child- being the weak one?
‘Cause days come, days go- but we only get innocence once
You always whispered to me in the dark, Child
Said “I’m scared- are you there?”
You weren’t afraid of waking me up from my nighttime dreaming
You always knew I’d understand, and I always understood that you needed my understanding
You always told me your secrets, Child
If you could trust anyone- you could trust me
It didn’t matter what anyone said
You always knew if you could count on anyone- it would be me
Years come and years go
Innocence leaves us for something much more fun-
Lies and pain, bleeding and stains
‘Cause we need to grow up, we have to grow up
Tell me, where’s the fun
Of being the little innocent child- being the weak one?
‘Cause days come, days go- but we only get innocence once
Dreams fade, memories fade
We only have what’s here right now
And that’s never as much as we’d like to have
Wouldn’t you like to get that innocence back now?
Years come and years go
Innocence leaves us for something much more fun-
Lies and pain, bleeding and stains
‘Cause we need to grow up, we have to grow up
Tell me, where’s the fun, oh where’s the fun
Of being the little innocent child- being the weak one?
‘Cause days come, days go- but we only get innocence once
