Travelling through space on the back of four elephants standing on the back of Great A'Tuin is the Discworld. Terry Pratchett's series of books have spawned a couple of computer games as well as attracting a large number of devoted fans. Everyone has favorite characters, whether it's Rincewind, the inept wizard who knows only one spell, or Carrot, the six foot tall dwarf (he's starting to come to grips with the idea that he may be human after all), or the Librarian, who, as the result of a magical accident, is now an orangutan, or Casanunda, the world's second greatest lover and a dwarf at that, or maybe the three witches: Granny Weatherwax, an expert in headology, Nanny Ogg, the much-married, and Magrat Garlick, the wet hen. And if these characters are new to you, START READING NOW! You can start from the beginning (The Colour of Magic/The Light Fantastic), or at any point that grabs you. I particularly like Guards, Guards and Reaper Man. Try them, you'll be hooked, too.
