2. "Lonely Hearts"

Angel begins this episode sitting alone in his office in the dark. Doyle comes in to beg for a night off of helping people. He also wants Angel to put in a good word for him with Cordelia. Angel is reluctant. Then, Cordelia comes bustling in with a package. She is excited because she had business cards made up for Angel with the office's phone number. The guys, however, can't figure out what the graphic on the card is supposed to be. Cordelia informs them its an angel and they don't argue with her for fear that their lives might be shortened considerably. Doyle has a vision anyway of a bar and that someone needs help. This gives them an excuse to go out and to work. Magically, Angel guesses the right bar Doyle had the vision of out of the hundreds of bars in L.A.
At the bar, a young dumpy girl is taken in by a sleazy guy's bad lines and whisked off to his apartment. Meanwhile, Angel tries to talk people up and ends up getting the attention of a blonde named Kate. Cordelia passes out Angel's business cards but is mistaken for a hooker. Doyle tries to defend her honor and ends up in a bar fight. The fight is quickly broken up and nothing much happens the rest of the night.
The girl that went home with the guy ended up staying the night, but in the morning the guy is dead and the girl is smiling at herself in the mirror.
The trio go back to the bar to look around again. The dumpy girl has transformed herself into a vixen and takes a guy home with her. Angel follows them thinking he's following a serial killer but what really happens is a parasitic demon jumps out of the girl's chest and into the guy's back. They demon is looking for a host that will hold it without dying. Angel and it fight but Angel is outmatched. Kate followed Angel to the apartment and sees him standing over the dead girl's body. She assumes the worst and pulls out her gun and badge. She's a cop and she's going to arrest Angel. He jumps out a window and gets out of there.
He called Cordelia and Doyle to meet with him at Cordelia's apartment. Cordelia has to invite Angel in and they get down to business. He has them start researching parasitic demons while he hunts for it.
Kate meanwhile, illegally breaks into Angel Investigations and has a look around. The parasite evades Angel and jumps into another body. Afterwards, Angel calls Kate at the police station to set up a meeting to share information. She agrees to meet him at the club at 7pm.
That night, Kate is waiting for Angel at a table she tells the bartender to alert her when Angel comes in. The bartender comes back a few seconds later to tell her Angel is in the alley. She follows the bartender but he hits her. She is stunned and goes down before the parasite can jump into her body Angel gets the bartender away from her. However, the bartender manages to lock them in the basement while he prowls the streets for a new victum. Angel and Kate bust out and take after the bartender. Angel catches up with it first and throws it into a fire filled garbage can. Kate arrives just in time to start shooting at the body going up in flames. The ambulance arrives later and Angel gives Kate a business card. She can't figure out what the graphic on it is either, so he takes it back and tells her he'll be around.
Angel actually offers to take Doyle and Cordelia, but they decide they'd rather go home. Angel happily sits alone in the dark.
