Summary: Liz has to tell the gang that Topolsky is back, and Max decides that he is ready for a step forward.

Topolsky’s Return (Part 1)

Liz could not believe it! What was Miss Topolsky doing back in Roswell? She thought that when she and Alex found out she was with the FBI that she was taken off the case.

Liz had seen her last night when she was on her roof. At first she wasn’t sure if it was her, but now there wasn’t a doubt in her mind. It was definitely Miss Topolsky.

Her first thought was to call Max, but she decided not to just in case the phone lines were tapped. She knew the FBI could do that sort if thing, so she decided to just tell everyone to meet at her house after school and she would tell them there.

Her parents were away for a few days, so she knew it would be safe. She had already told Maria and Alex to meet her at the Crashdown after school, and now she was going to tell Max in Biology to bring Isabel and Michael to the Crashdown after school also.

Max was sitting in Biology waiting for Liz to get to class. Since he had broken up with her, sitting right beside her in class has been pure torture. But today was different. Today he was going to tell her that he has decided that he can’t live without her. That he needed her just like he needed air to breathe.

Liz came walking through the door. Finally, he thought.

“Hey, Max. I need to talk to you.”

“I need to talk to you, too.”

“I need you to meet me at the Crashdown after school. Bring Isabel and Michael with you.”

“What’s this all about Liz?”

“I'll tell you at my house. Just meet me at the Crashdown. It is VERY important, Max. I just don’t think it is safe for me to tell you here.”

Max was getting worried now. If she didn’t want to talk about it in public, then it meant it had to do with him, Michael, and Isabel.

“What did you need to tell me, Max?”

“Oh.” He looked down at the table. “I've been doing some thinking, Liz, and I have come to the conclusion that I need you in my life. I am so sorry for hurting you the other night. I was wrong, and I can only hope that you can forgive me, and take me back.” He looked up and was surprised to find tears in her eyes. “Liz, please don’t cry. I didn’t mean to make you cry.”

“No, it’s okay, Max. These are happy tears,” she said with a smile.

Max couldn’t believe it. She wasn’t mad at him. Suddenly he kissed her right there in the middle of biology. They were oblivious to everything around them until suddenly they heard their teacher. “Miss Parker and Mr. Evans!”

Max and Liz both jumped and looked at their teacher.

They both turned five shades of red and slumped down in their seats. “I am so sorry for interrupting your little moment, but could you both please get your things and go to the principal’s office now!” she said very angrily.

Max and Liz both got their things and headed out of class. “Oh, my God! I can not believe we just did that. What are we going to do? Do you think we will get suspended?” Liz asked with worry spread across her face.

Max just looked at her and smiled. Liz was so cute when she was worried. And sexy too. Max couldn’t help himself. He started kissing her again in the middle of the hall.

Liz stopped him and laughed. “Max Evans, what has gotten in to you?”

Max smiled a seductive smile and said, “Liz, you make me crazy.”

“Well, I guess there’s nothing wrong with going crazy every once in a while,” Liz said smiling at Max a smile she reserves only for his eyes.

Max started kissing her again, unable to control himself. He missed her so much that all his feelings and urges were just rushing out all at once.

Liz stopped him once again. “Max! We're in the middle of the hall!”

Max smiled a sneaky smile and took Liz’s books out of her hands and shoved them in his locker with his own. Then he proceeded to stoop down and sweep Liz off her feet and with one arm across her back and the other one cradling her legs, he carried her up to the eraser room and put her down. “Is this better?” he asked while locking the door behind them.

Liz could not believe that this was her Max. She loved this new side to him. His out of control side. “Yeah, but, Max. We're supposed to be going to the office, remember?”

“I’d rather be here with you,.” he said while taking a step toward her. He lifted his hand up to stroke her silky soft cheek. He had been thinking about doing that, among other things, ever since he had told her he needed a step back. Then, he guided his fingers over her lips and Liz could feel herself heating upall over.

“Max,” she said breathlessly, “We're going to get into more trouble, you know?”

“I know, but all I can think about right now is how much I have missed you. God Liz, how do you do this to me?”

“To you? You’re the one making me go crazy right now.”

Max smiled and started to kiss Liz’s neck. Liz moaned and Max smiled some more. He loved knowing that he had to same effect on her as she did on him. Liz put her hands in Max’s hair and pulled him closer to her. She didn’t know what he was doing to her, but whatever it was, she didn’t want him to stop. “Oh, Max, what are you doing to me?”

Max stopped and looked at her in the eyes, seemingly searching for her soul. “I’m loving you, Liz.” He leaned forward and kissed her gently on the lips.

With each passing second, the kisses between them grew deeper and more aggressive. Max began to let his hands roam. He rubbed her neck and then let his hands glide over her shoulders and down her arms.

When he got to her hands, he held them and brought them up to his face. He stopped kissing her lips and placed his lips on her hands. Then, he slowly kissed a path up her arm across her shoulders and down the other arm.

Liz could feel her knees weakening with each and every kiss. His lips against her body did things to her that she never could have imagined in her dreams. She didn’t want him ever to stop kissing her. She didn’t want this feeling to end. But then it did.

“Who’s in there?” yelled an angry voice.

“Oh, my God, Max. What are we going to do?” Liz whispered frantically.

Before they could do anything, they heard keys jingling around and the door opened. “Mr. Evans and Miss Parker. You two were supposed to be in my office half an hour ago.”

Max and Liz just looked at each other and smiled faintly. They knew they were in big trouble, but they didn’t have a care in the world at that particular moment. All they saw was each other.

Topolsky's Return (Part 2)

Max, Liz, Maria, Alex, Isabel, and Michael are eating lunch together.

“You're suspended for a week?!” yelled Maria. “Liz Parker, goody two-shoes poster girl is suspended? This is definitely a sign of Armageddon. I mean, Liz, you never get into trouble. What exactly did you do?”

“Yeah, Liz. Spill it,” added Alex.

Liz just looked over at Max and smiled.

“Max, did you have something to do with this?” Isabel asked, curious as to why Liz had looked at Max like that.

“Well…I'm sort of suspended, too.”

“What?” Isabel, Michael, and Maria all asked at once.

“Ok, King and Queen of the goody two-shoes club are both suspended. Now, I have to go home and prepare for the end of the world,” Maria said in her Maria-melodramatic way.

“What exactly did you two do? Blow up the biology lab or something?” Alex asked.

No, but we sure did heat it up, Liz thought to herself. “No, we didn’t blow up the lab, Alex.”

“Well, what did you do?” Isabel asked.

“You all are coming to the Crashdown after school, right? Alex and I are riding with Maria over there. Are you three going to follow us?” Liz asked, trying to change the subject and also because it
was really important that they come.

“Yes, we are coming, now back to what I was saying, what did you two do?” Isabel asked smiling at Liz’s attempt to change the subject. This must be something juicy, she thought.

“We…sort of…kissed in biology,” Max said, looking at Liz.

“You kissed in the middle of class?” asked Maria.

Max and Liz just nodded their heads looking at each other. Both of them were thinking about the kiss in class and what happened in the eraser room.

“Wait a minute. Is that all? Because a week seems like an awfully long time just for kissing in class,” Alex pointed out.

“Yeah, Maxwell. What else did you get suspended for?”Michael added.

Max and Liz both were blushing big time now, so everyone knew there was more than what they were telling.

"Liz, you cannot keep anything from me, ok? So, you might as well spill it,” Maria said.

“Well…you see…we were supposed to go to the office, but instead we…” she looked up at Max, who was smiling back at her. She smiled at him “We…”

“I took her up to the eraser room and the principal caught us,” Max finished for her.

“You took her to the eraser room?” Michael asked, smiling. This was amusing him greatly because it was such an un-Max like thing to do.

Max smiled and looked at Liz. “Yeah.”

“Who are you and what have you done with my brother?” Isabel asked, smiling. She liked seeing Max so carefree and open. The past week with him has been a nightmare because all he did was sulk around thinking about Liz. He definitely cared for Liz a great deal and she was happy that he was now happy.

“Yeah, Liz. Where’s my innocent best friend?” Maria asked, also very amused with this information.

“I’m still innocent,” Liz said.

“Liz, remember what I said about the eraser room?” Maria asked and then she whispered in Liz’s ear, “It takes our innocence.”

“Maria, sniff some cedar oil. It did not go that far,” Liz said.

The bell for the end of lunch rang. “Do you think you two can make it to class without swinging by the eraser room or do you need escorts?” Isabel asked, thoroughly enjoying this.

“I think we can manage,” Max said looking at Liz.

“My parents are going to ground me for forever when they find out,” Liz said.

“I know. Mine will, too,” Max said in agreement.

“But, you know what? I still think it was worth it,” Liz said.

Max looked at Liz and wanted to whisk her away to the eraser room again for saying that. “Liz, I better get to class now, or I am going to cause us to get suspended for another week.”

Liz laughed at this. Max was so sexy when he lost control and the way he was looking at her now made her want to go to the eraser room no matter what the consequence. “Max, I think I better get to class, too, because if I’m around you another second, I’ll be willing to get suspended another week.”

That made Max want her more. He leaned down to kiss her.

“No, Max. Class. Got to get to class.” She smiled and went down the hall to class. She knew if he
kissed her, it would be all over. She knew she’d probably end up dragging HIM to the eraser room.

Max smiled looking at Liz walking down the hall to class. Life couldn’t be anymore perfect, he thought.

After his last class, Max was still thinking about Liz and their encounter in the eraser room when Michael walked up to him. “Ready to go to the Crashdown, loverboy? Do you think you can keep your lips to yourself long enough for her to tell us her news?” Michael asked enjoying tormenting Max.

“You think you’re funny, don’t you?” Max asked smiling.

“I know I am, Maxwell.”

“Hey guys! Ready to go? Do you think you can handle being around Liz and not attacking her, Max?” Isabel said, walking up.

“Ok, am I going to have to listen to you two mock me for the rest of the day?”

“Oh, no! We can make fun of you for this for weeks!” Isabel said.

“Great!” Max said sarcastically.

At the Crashdown

Max, Michael, and Isabel walked in.

“Ok, now that we're all here, let’s go up to my place,” Liz said. They all followed Liz up to her apartment above theCrashdown. “Ok, guys. You will never believe who I saw.” She started as she headed to her room.

As soon as she walked in, she gasped. Everything in her room was scattered everywhere. Everything was thrown around and on her floor. But the most surprising thing of all: Miss Topolsky and some guy were standing there just as shocked as Liz was.

“What’s wrong, Liz?” Max asked, but as soon as he glanced into the room, he knew.

“Oh, my God!” Maria said.

“What are… what are you doing here?” Liz asked.

“Well, you weren’t supposed to be home yet, but since you've caught us, here is as good a place as any,” Topolsky said.

"What are you talking about?” Michael asked.

“You had something I wanted, Liz. This.” With that, she revealed the journal she had found in Liz’s room. “I was disgraced when you found out who I was, so I had to come back with my partner here and get what could clear my name. This journal is evidence of human contact with aliens and it will make me famous.”

Topolski's Return (Part 3)

Max, Michael, Isabel, Alex, and Maria stood there scared to death. They all thought that this was the end of the road. The FBI had won the final round.

But Liz was not scared. She was angry. “Miss Topolsky, I do not know what you are talking
about. This alien thing has gone way too far. You have broken into MY house looking for evidence of something that doesn’t exist. There is no such thing as aliens!”

Everyone stared at Liz in shock.

“Liz, you can cut the act. I have my evidence now. There is nothing you can do,” Toplosky said.

“Are you not listening to me? There is no such thing as aliens! Why does everyone think that I'm hiding some secret about aliens being in Roswell?” Liz demanded, getting frustrated.

“Well, why don’t we just read a little bit of this diary and decide for ourselves what we think you're hiding,” Topolsky said with a smirk.

“Go ahead!” Liz said, crossing her arms.

“Liz!” Max said.

“It’s ok, Max. At least she won’t think you're an alien anymore.”

Max and everyone else were confused by Liz’s reaction to Toplosky having her journal. Has she gone crazy?

Toplosky smiled and opened the book that was in her hands. Max, Isabel, Michael, Maria, and Alex all held their breath as Topolsky started to read.

“I’m Liz Parker and this is what I have been thinking. Has everyone in Roswell gone crazy? Everyone here seems to think that I have some big secret about Max Evans. It all started when a gun went off in the Crashdown. I was startled and I lost my footing and tripped. I broke a Ketchup bottle when I fell and got ketchup all over me.

Max Evans ran up to me to see if I was alright and when he saw I was, he left the Crashdown. Max has the most soulful eyes. He has never really talked to me much before, but after he ran up to me, I decided that I was going to get to know him. He is really sweet. I found out later he
left because he said he didn’t want to have to go through questioning with the police.

I can understand that. Especially since the sheriff here in Roswell seems to be losing his mind. He thinks that Max did something to me at the café. He showed me this picture of a corpse with a silver handprint on it and insisted that Kyle said there was one on me. What has gotten into everyone? When will this all be over?”

Topolsky stopped reading and looked at Liz. “This can’t be possible.”

“What were you expecting, Miss Tolpolsky? There is no such thing as aliens,” Liz said coldly.

Max, Michael, Isabel, Maria, and Alex were all looking at Liz with surprise. They were all thinking the same thing. What the hell was that?

“But, the hospital and the blood,” Topolsky said, flipping through the pages. She stopped on the page she was looking for and started reading again.

"Today, Max and I got into a car accident. I was so scared for him. Right after the accident, I looked at him and he was laying on the steering wheel. I couldn’t breathe. I thought he was…I don’t even want to write it down. I don’t know what I would ever do if anything happened to him. He has become so important to me.

At the hospital, I did something really horrible and I hope Alex can one day forgive me for using him. I asked him to let me take his blood, so that nobody would know that Max was into drugs."

Topolsky stopped reading again. “What is this?”

“It's MY PRIVATE thoughts and feelings and I really don’t appreciate you invading them. Isn’t this
against the law? Breaking and entering?”

“Well, we can still get him for drugs,” Topolsky retorted.

“I could also get you for searching without awarrant,” Liz added.

Toplosky stood there confused. Was it really just drugs? Could that really be what they were hiding all this time and everyone misinterpreted their moves? But then why did they go to Texas? “Well, then why did you go to Texas?”

“We needed more drugs,” Liz lied.

Topolsky knew that this drug thing made sense, but something still wasn’t right. But why would Liz write all of those things down in her journal? That’s why she was frantic when it was missing. Because she didn’t want Max exposed as a druggie? It made sense and suddenly Topolsky felt really stupid. Without another word, Topolsky left the room and her partner followed. She had to think this through.

Everyone just stood there quiet until Maria broke the silence. “Did that just happen?”

“Yeah,” Liz answered.

“Ok, well… WHAT just happened?”

“Yeah, what was that?” Alex added.

“Well, my news was that I saw Miss Topolsky last night when I was out on my roof. I was looking down onto the street and out of the corner of my eye, I saw her turning the corner. I wasn’t sure if it was her at first. I was going to tell you all that she was back in town and to not act suspicious. Anyway. I remembered that your house," she said, looking at Max, "Got robbed and that the people that robbed it knew what they were looking for. The files. So, I thought that just in case they decided to break into my house to find something, I would plant a fake journal and just hope it got them to think they were being crazy. I wrote it all up last night and tried to include reasonable explanations for everything that has happened.”

Everyone looked at Liz stunned.

“Liz, thank you so much. You just saved our lives again,” Isabel said.

“Topolsky looked real confused when she left. I think she bought it,” Michael added.

Max just looked at Liz. His love for her growing by the second. How did he get so lucky? She had just saved their lives and she might have even got the FBI off them. “Liz, you are the most amazing person I have ever met.”

“Uh-oh! We better get out of here before we witness Max attacking Liz again!” Maria said, heading downstairs to the Crashdown.

Liz just smiled and Max blushed. Max knew that he had been acting crazy all day, but he couldn’t help it. He was just so glad that Liz wasn’t mad at him and that she was his that his mind wasn’t working properly. But, now he just wanted to hold her.

He stepped forward and put his arms around her waist and squeezed tightly, yet gently.

“Ok, I’m gone. This is how it starts,” Alex said, leaving the room smiling.

“Max, we’re going to wait for you downstairs. Liz, thank you. You have no idea how much you just helped,” Isabel said.

Michael just smiled at Liz and walked out with Isabel.

Liz and Max just stared into each other’s eyes and held each other. Both were thankful that Topolsky was gone. “Liz, when I saw that Topolsky had your journal, I felt like I had been hit in the stomach. My life flashed before my eyes. I thought it was all over. Topolsky had won, and you know what the only thing I could think about was? What would happen to you if I weren’t here to look after you and what would Topolsky do with you? Liz, if anything ever happened to you because of me, I would just…” By now tears were forming in Max’s eyes.

Liz put her finger up to his mouth, tears coming to her own eyes. “Max, you are the reason that I am even here right now. Stop blaming yourself for everything. You are not responsible for the world and you won’t always be able to keep me safe. ”

“I know, Liz. It’s just when it comes to you, I can’t help but worry. You mean everything to me, Liz.” He said, his voice cracking in that Max-way it does sometimes. He leaned down and kissed her gently. “I love you,” he whispered.

“I love you too, Max.”

The held each other tightly, both thankful that they had each other and that they had survived Topolsky’s return. They both knew then more than ever before that Max’s words before their first kiss were true. No matter what they went through, it was worthwhile because they were together.
