Theme: Max and Liz story
Summary: I didn't like the way Sexual Healing left us hang
when it came to the meeting between Liz, Max and their Parents at
the end. So I figured I'd try to give us all a better one. Here
goes..
MEETING WITH THEIR PARENTS
Max and Liz walk into the cafe hand in hand knowing that
facing their parents was inevitable. However they didn't expect
to find Max's parents to be there with Liz's parents. They stop
as soon as they entered the Cafe, shocked to see this group that
waited for them.
During their drive back into town they talked about what they
would tell their parents. They if it came to that. They really
hoped that it didn't, but Liz always liked to have a plan just in
case. Thank goodness they did.
FLASH BACK
"Max, we have to decide what we're going to tell our
parents. Chances are they already know that we're gone."
"Yea, I think your right. What should we tell them?
Obviously we can't tell them the truth."
"Yea, I know that. My mom is going to have a cow. After
school yesterday, she was acting.... well, she asked me about my
feelings for you. I know she's concerned about what choices I'm
making. I feel like she still wants me to be her little
girl."
"We both know that you're not a little girl anymore."
Max smiles sheepishly at Liz. "I've seen the kinds of things
that you think about. Little girls don't think about things like
that. Maybe I should help your mother realize just how grown up
you are."
Slapping him playfully on the arm. "You wouldn't."
"No?"
"Max!"
"Just kidding, we'll let it stay our secret. The question is
what do we tell them? They're going to be very angry with us.
Maybe we should tell them what they want to hear."
"What they want to hear?"
"Yea, that we have decided to be good boys and girls."
"Are you saying we should be a good boy and girl or just say
that we're going to be?" mischievously Liz asks. She already
knows the answer, but she wants to hear him say it.
Max looks over at Liz and catches her heated gaze. He wanted to
pull over and take her in his arms, but deep down he felt that
would be a mistake. They were going to be in enough trouble as it
was. "Liz, don't look at me that way. If you want to get
home in time to try and smooth things
our with your parents, then don't look at me that way." Max
looks away from her trying to regain his self control.
"I'll try to be good, here's want I suggest we tell
them."
End of Flash Back
They looked at each other and then proceeded to sit at the table
facing their parents. They continued to hold hands for comfort
and support. The tension in the room was thick enough to cut it
with a knife. Max and Liz looked one more time at each other and
they both realized that their parents were waiting on an
explanation.
Max took a deep breath trying to gain some confidence before
beginning. "We know that you are upset with us. We didn't
mean to be gone this long."
Liz could tell how nervous Max was feeling. The way her father
was eyeing him she wasn't surprised. She was sure that they all
suspect that her and Max had done what they almost did. She
squeezed Max's hand to let him know that it was okay. "Mom,
after we talked last night, I just had to get out of here. I felt
like you didn't trust me, and the thing is I've never given you
any reason to doubt me. I just had to get out of here, I needed
time to think about things and clear my head."
When Liz fell silent Max picked up where she left off, and
proceeds to tell how they ended up together. "I was having
trouble sleeping after what happened at school yesterday. I
decided to drive around for a while, maybe go by and visit with
Michael. But I ended up here. I saw Liz up on
her balcony. I figured that she was having trouble sleeping as
well. I figured that we both should talk about it. She said I
could come up. Once up there, I could see that she was really
upset, and that it was more than what had happened at school. She
told me that she just needed to get away for awhile. I suggested
a drive, it always works for me when I need to think."
Liz interrupted, she didn't want to risk that they would think it
was all Max's idea. "Which I agreed to. I was grateful for
the suggestion, and something about the wind blowing in my face
helps me relax. And that's exactly what I needed to do, relax.
After a while Max pulled over and we started talking about
everything that was going on, everything that was bothering me.
That lead to other things that we needed to talk about. Mom, I
know that you were just worried that I."
Liz paused and looked at Max. "That we could be making a
mistake. I want to assure you, all of you, that's not the case.
We do have deep feelings for each other, only we're both still
thinking that we don't want to risk our futures. We both have
plans for our lives, and yes we're hoping that we end up
together, but we both want to accomplish those goals. We know
that if we take risks, there's a chance that it wouldn't happen.
Neither of us are willing to jeopardize our futures. Last night
we spent time make some rules for ourselves."
Max and Liz both felt this was going well, but were wondering if
their parents were believing them. They knew that what they were
telling their parents is true, that if they crossed those lines
they were risking their futures. What they hadn't decided was, were
they willing to take those chances?
Max figured it was time to put on the finishing touches.
"These were things that we needed to talk about. We had to
make these chooses for ourselves. No one could make them for us.
We're the ones that have to enforce them, because were the ones
that will ultimately pay the consequences if we were to ever
break them. Which we're not planning on doing. We both realize
that time is on our side, and that there is no rush. Just
spending time together, and having each other as a support like
last night was enough. We didn't mean to be gone all night. It's
just after talking we started talking about how clear the stars
when you get away from all the lights, and, well we ended up
falling asleep. We came back as soon as we woke up." Now it
was out of their hands, what ever happened now was up to their
parents.
It was torture sitting there waiting for one of their parents to
say something, anything. To Max and Liz it seemed as if an
eternity passed before Jeff Parker finally broke the silence.
"I'm sure that I can speak for all of us here, when I say
that we are pleased that you have come to these conclusions on
your own. However, there will have to be some new rules."
Mr. Evans interrupts, "Max you have always been pretty level
headed, and, Liz, your parents say the same about you. However,
we have witnessed a lack of good judgement when you to get
together. That's why we feel a need for a new rule in both homes.
You are never; I do stress the never; to be alone in your
rooms."
"There will also be a punishment for your disappearance last
night. You both should have known better to take off without
telling anyone were you were going. We were all very concerned
about you," Nancy Parker added.
"For the next two months you will only be able to see
each other either at school, here at the Crashdown, in the
Parker's home, and in our home. And it should go without saying
no more trips to the eraser room or any other rooms for the same
purpose."
"When the two months is up, for the following two months you
will only go out in groups, double dates that sort of thing. No
pairing off!" Mrs. Evans sternly stated.
"Mrs. Evans, not to be rude, but that's going to be hard, we
really don't have a lot of friends that are going to want to do
that. I mean we basically hang out with four people. Michael who
is seeing Maria, Alex, and Isabel."
"Mom, I don't see Isabel wanting me, her brother going out
on dates with her, and the others are going to tire of being our
chaperones."
Mrs. Evans smiled brightly. "Then I suggest you make some
new friends."
Max and Liz shared a glance. They both appreciated the fact that
their punishments could have been a lot worse, and that they were
getting off pretty easy. They both accept their punishment
without argument.
Later that morning Max and Liz sit in the Parker's living room
on the couch. They weren't too worried about her parents
interrupting. Her father was busy downstairs in the Cafe, and her
mom needed to go pick up a few things from the store. So they
were alone and making out as heavily as ever.
"You know that if either of our parents realize how close we
came last night, they would have given us a stiffer punishment.
They would never let us be alone like this. I'm glad that didn't
happen." Max realized that he lost Liz to her own thoughts.
He wondered if she was thinking about what almost happened
between them. " Liz, if we hadn't found that thing when we
did, we would have, you know. Would you have regretted it?"
"Max, I love you, and....I could never regret anything we
share."
Surprised by what Liz said, he wanted to hear it one more time to
make sure that he wasn't just hearing things. "Say that one
more time."
Liz looks down at her hands smiling, and looks back up at Max.
"I said I love you, and I wouldn't have regretted it."
Max smiled warmly and was still a little surprised, but very
happy. "I love you, too. I have for so long, and I never
thought that you could love me back the same way. The only way I
would ever regret it, is if you did. As long as you are happy
about it, I would be happy about it. I want you to know that if
you want to slow things down I'll understand. I don't want to
rush you into anything that your not ready for. So lets just take
it as it comes. I have to admit that it's gong to be harder for
me now, but I won't go any faster than your ready to."
"Thank you, and I agree that we should probably slow down a
little. Max, I don't know what I'm ready for. I just know that I
can't stand the idea of not being near you. To feel you holding
me, touching me, and me being able to touch you, kiss you.
Truthfully, I regret that we didn't finish what
we started last night, and at the same time I don't know if I'm
ready for our relationship to move to that level yet. If my
parents ever suspected how crazy just the thought of you makes
me, they would keep us apart for a very long time."
