Saturday 7/28/2001 at the Boarding House Park stage

The Acts:

Solás: (not traditional) Irish
Not a bad start to the day.

Dr. Ralph Stanley and His Clinch Mountain Boys: Bluegrass
Probably OK if you like that sort of thing.

Fiddle Workshop: assorted violinists
Too much talking from the host, not enough interaction between the players.

La Familia Valera Miranda: Cuban
The smaller guitar on the right is a Tres (probably).

Mingo Saldivar y Sus Tremendos Cuatro: Conjunto ("San Antonio music")
Athletic accordion playing.

Nathan and The Zydeco Cha Chas (Junior and senior versions): Zydeco
The audience was on its feet through most of the set.

Bahamas Junkanoo Revue : Bahamian Parade Music
Best costumes?

Jinny Marsh and her Hot Kugel Klezmer Band : Klezmer (obviously)
Their violinist was more impressive than the ones in the workshop.

The Aaron Flagg Jazz Quartet
The highlight of the day (but is it folk music?).

Solás (again)
They lose points for playing the same music again, even if they did change clothes.

The Dogs:

The best dressed dog at the festival...

...and the smallest.

Also:

One of the announcers, one of the hearing-impaired interpreters, and a sound tech.

The crowd (big).

The stage (that's the bluegrass band again).
