Mercury
Mercury
- The closest planet to the sun.
- Not the hottest planet as most might think. Many people
think this obviously because it is the closest to the sun.
- Is the second smallest planet.
- Has no atmosphere (like most moons) which is why it is not
the hottest planet!
- It's surface looks very similar to our moon.
- It's temperature changes are the greatest of any planet.
They vary between -180°C and 427°C! Cold enough to make
a bucket of water dropped from 5 feet freeze before it hits the
ground and hot enough to melt a lead pipe!
- Was named after the Roman Messenger God who sped around
the sky on winged feet. It was named this because of the
speed at which it orbited the sun, just 88 days compared to
Earths' 365!
- Is only a little larger than our moon.
- Craters on Mercury are named after famous composers,
authors, and artists such as Beethoven, Vivaldi, Dickens and
Renoir.
