Avast Antivirus is the best free Antivirus program available. It is in the background, always scanning each opened file silently. It has built in protection for P2P programs, Outlook Express, Instant Messaging, and Internet Mail. It places a footer into each received POP3 mail message in Outlook, stating if a virus has being found, or if it is clean. It automatically updates itself with the latest Antivirus definitions, and requires no input from the user, once the options have being set up. It also has the ability to do a complete system scan, scanning thoroughly, or standard, and can scan floppy disks and CD Drives.

Zone Alarms is probably the most popular available free firewall. It has advanced features, and offers excellent protection. It protects your computer from all Internet Access Attempts, and asks you if you want to allow or deny each program access to the internet when a program attempts this. It alerts you with a pop up alert, which can be turned off, to block access silently, or can be set to only display high threat alerts. Useful for users on Non-XP or shared systems, this program encrypts files in 128-bit encryption. It can also be used by Xp users for extra security to protect files from being viewed if a hacker gains control of your system. Integrated into Windows Explorer, you can easily Encrypt, Decrypt a file, or every file in a folder at the touch of a button, protecting it with a set password, so only you or someone with your password can open the file.

PC Audit is an internet security tester...or a demonstration as to what hackers can see on your computer. It shows you what can be sent to the internet, without even alerting your firewall. It asks you to type a few letters, and then any information which the program could access without alerting your firewall is published to a secure encrypted internet page, which only you can see, with your IP address. It then shows you all the information:- screenshot, keys typed, and folders whch it could see. Please note: the program does not save your information, it is deleted after 5 minutes, or when you click �Delete�.
