Australian Blackmores

Try Australian Blackmores I have not been through this web site myself (it seems to deal with Willaim Blackmore and his son John, born at Burrington, Devon) but it may be of interest.

From Sarah Talbutt

Dear Anthony,

I have only recently found my connection to the Blackmore family of Exmouth and even more recently (an hour ago,) your excellent web site.

I do hope I may pick your brains and hopefully add another branch to your tree.

My geat great grandfather James Ryan born Exeter 1826 married Agnes Blackmore born Exmouth 1831 in Littleham parish church Dec 24th 1849.

Their witnesses were George and William Blackmore.Agnes was the daughter of James Blackmore a blacksmith and plumber. At the time of her marriage Agnes was a lace maker and James Ryan was a coach builder.

So far so good. From here on things seem to go arwy. In 1851 Agnes is in Taunton with her baby daughter but James is a boarder elsewhere and described as unmarried. In 1859 my geat grandfather Thomas Ryan was born at South Street Littleham Exmouth In the 1871 census they are together and the family has grown In the 1881 census Agnes is with her children and James is lodging elsewhere

In the 1891 census Agnes is living with a lady lodger and James is in Plymouth, lying slightly about his age, but still a coach trimmer from Exmouth and claiming to be married to a 36year old called Emily.

I was always promised a black sheep in this otherwise rather straightlaced part of my family and I think I may have found him! Do you have any information on Agnes or her family that you would be able to share with me?

I am more than happy to share my knowledge of my Somerest peasantry with you if it turns out that there is a connection, though I'm afraid I lose the Ryans one generation back as James' parents Thomas and Mary arrive from Ireland as young adults shortly before James' birth.

Best wishes and I do hope to hear from you.

FROM IRENE WILSON POWER

Hi Anthony, I have just completed work on genealogy of my Dads family Tommie Wilson. I now hope to do same for my Mom- Irene Florence Blackmore.

I know they arrived in Dublin Ringsend and Sandymount and Irishtown late 1800s. I have not done a lot of work on their side of the family. But I do know they were seafarers from Cornwall and Devon Your site intrigued me. If you have any information to share I would love to have it. Likewise if I could find out Dublin history I will forward same to you.

My mother was named after her grandfathers trawler Irene. Here is a photo of the vessel.
