Morning Waistcoats |
Images of some vintage morning waistcoats. I would guess that the first three date prior to WWII. The lighter buff I believe is linen and is distinguished by its notched lapels and covered buttons; the other some sort of linen or washed silk. The buff double-breasted waistcoat is interesting in that the back strap has the facility to take the buckle off for cleaning, a facility that I have only previously seen in white (evening) waistcoats. The grey waistcoat is a standard wool morning waistcoat with typical broad pointed lapels. By way of contrast, the last image is of a modern morning waistcoat, single-breasted, in Irish linen by Hackett. It is a rather strong purple, which has washed out in the photograph. It makes an interesting contrast with the older single-breasted morning waistcoat; particularly in the width of the lapels. |
