Durham University Shieldware
During the later nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, porcelain items, of a wide variety of shapes, decorated with city, town and university shields were a popular decorative and souvenir item.  As well as being interesting in themselves, these are often valuable records of the way in which the blazon of a particular coat of arms was interpreted at the time at which the items were produced.  This page contains images of such items showing the coat of arms of Durham University.
