Team managed to win 3 points in Adana's crowdless stadium. 5 changes (2 forced) from Wednesday's initial lineup. Ilhan won his 4th card.
Team will leave for Rome on a charter Monday morning. Have a nice trip!

UEFA Cup 3rd-rd 1st leg: Gaziantepspor 1-0 AS Roma

Not sure whether to joy because Roma in Rome is of a different planet. But they came and we downed them. And that's enough for history. 20,000 people packed the stadium and the team set the fire on Roma. 2nd leg in 6 days, after a stop at Adana.

These days we are so much in love with Fenerbahce. Players are filled with chickens who live on Istanbul-day pensions. It wasn't like this last season.
Supporters called for Dogan's resignation and set fire on the stands. Will they come back Thursday? Slim chance.
This is the 5th defeat in 5 (league) encounters with the Big 3 this season. None are on a narrow margin.
Johnson and Bouazizi will miss the next league match. Save them (and others) for the UEFA return leg.

And the team responds! Supposedly a difficult away tie under the below-zero conditions, but we breezed through. A good exercise before the next week's tie against FB.
Table-wise, the team has tied with GS for the 5th place, just a point away from 4th-placed Denizli.

New national team squad has been announced. Ömer and Ibrahim for A team. The friendly will be held in Adana. (No trip to Istanbul over the very snowy weekend.)
For the new U-21 team Bekir was the only nominee. Except he's young enough for the category (1.1.83 and later), not sure what he did to deserve the selection. :)
Some talk on today's Sabah (and Fotomac). Transfer aside, Ibrahim is quoted on pondering a move to Japan because of many fans from the country.

In exchange for $2M a year (and a huge villa, new model car, 24-hour SP's, and endless endorsements), he stopped playing the kind of football fans really looked for in him - playing at the top of Europe both with club and with Turkey.
Fans who closely follow Turkish football from Japan are very disappointed with Ibrahim's comment, already seeing Mansiz mocking smiles on every camera occasion.
Rather than saying going to Japan (before Europe or anywhere else), please do not miss the few matches being telecast live. And don't show up with 4 stiches on the eyelid in one of them (and concede goals and be cautioned, etc.)!! :) It was a joke, right? (Don't get fans' messages wrong, Ibo.)

Turkey Cup 3rd rd: Gaziantep 0-0 Istanbulspor (aet, PK: 4-5)
Couldn't score against the bootstrapped team at home and that was it. Hope for Europe next season clings on making the top 3 in the league (top 4 if cup winners come from top 3).
OTOH Bouazizi and Jaziri's Tunisia defeated Nigeria after penalty shootouts to advance to the African Cup final. Both played full minutes.

Gaziantep 2-0 Genclerbirligi (77.Hasan Ozer, 87.Johnson)
Both teams missed zillions of chances, but in the end it was Antep who converted a couple of. Moved up to 6th place.
Congratulations! The hosts Tunisia advance to the semifinal: Tunisia 1-0 Senegal. Both Jaziri and Bouazizi started. They cannot book a flight until 2/14 (the final; 3rd-place tie on 2/13).

Team donated the home side its first victory in 8 official games. Worse, we lost Ibrahim next week - with a card on min.90 (that's a 6-point loss). Bouazizi and Jaziri won't come back.

With the main pitch waterlogged, the game was held at a training ground. Still, we cannot compete against Dutch when playing in the water.
Team complete Antalya camp and come back to Gaziantep - weather permitted. :)
Cem Baki's transfer to Rize has been resolved. Alper's has not been while the player trains with Rize.

Papers report Tranzon failed Mehmet Polat's medical so as to get the player for free and pay on a match basis. Apparently, this is legal in Turkey.
Aside from Polat, Sahinturk, Cem Baki, Huseyin are yet to find a new club.

Yusuf Simsek signed. It's a 4-month loan deal (from Fener). He'll join the Belek camp one day later.
Fener may yet release Petkov once they signed enough number of foreigners. All of them can play in the UEFA Cup. Sure Aziz Yildirim wants something definite in return.
