SO, WHO ARE THE  TRUE DIVAS?

The Concert Diva April 23 ,2000 saw first-class performances from four powerhoude lungs of Malay pop.
New Paper Singapore reporter SETO NU-WEN was at the Harbour Pavillion Singapore to rate these artiste for their Diva quality.

VERDICT

Like a bottle of fine wine, the secret to diva-ness lies in age.

Veterans Anita Sarawak and Hetty Koes Endang aren't realeasing hit albums or topping the charts anymore like Sheila Majid and Siti Nurhaliza are doing.
But, they definitely showed the divas-in-waiting a thing or two about true diva quality. Take this from a scene backstage in the Harbour Pavilion Singapore carpark just before the concert started.

While Sheila turned up in an ordinary , cream-coloured van, Anita breezed through in a gleaming, black Mercedes Benz.
And, anyone would tell you , that's how real Diva should arrive.

ANITA SARAWAK , :The mother of all divas

Diva Counterpart : Tina Turner

Diva wear : Hot, slinky purple number and stunnig black dress that showed off her ample bosom and voluptuous crves.

Diva Repertoire : A mix of cabaret-style Vegas hits and malay traditional numbers ( Joget).

Diva Voice : Husky, breathy growl.

Diva Style : Like a sinewy feline, she gyrated and twisted like a belly dancer half her age.

Diva pose : Tarantula  lashed eyes open wide , lips purrsed sexily and talon like nails flashing

Diva Showmanship : Dragged a poor , unsuspecting man from the audience, style him with Elvis Presley hairdo and then made him do the joget with her.
Diva humour : Got the aaudience collapsing in laugh after laugh with her quick jokes.

Diva Rapport : Whooped along  enthousiastically with the audience. Even teased the blushing, teenage stagehands.

Diva moment : Her pose her Straut her attitude. Diva should  be her middle name . Unlike otherartiste who had to sip from mineral water bottles at the side of the stage, she had a white cloth-covered table of water and glasses on stage especially for her .

Unlike Diva Moment : no trace of  an  American accent.
this Kampung girl still does it in typical , local Malay style.

Siti Nurhaliza : Sweet diva
Diva counterparts :Brandy
Diva voice : Syrupy, like a nightingale.
Diva style : Did some sleek salsa like moves with her latin sound numbers.
Diva pose : With an electric fan blowing out her lush tressses and spotlights on her pimple free skin, as if she's doing a photoshoot for a Maybelline ad.
Diva moment : Practically none! this woman's too nice to be a diva.
