The question how witchcraft was born and how witches came to the Earth has been studied for years and there are many different theories and takes on the issue, but only few of them are even near the truth. Some scientists believe witches were simply born through evolution of the human kind, that they are the next level of human generation. Some believe being a witch is a disease, virus that was created by greedy scientists but who couldn't invent a cure to heal the monster they had made. Of course, few say that witches have been born from pure magic and there is no explanation for their existence. That however is the least 'popular' belief of them all since the scientists love to hang onto the thought of physical explanation behind every little thing.
The truth isn't quite that simple though and it has bits of every theory melted into one. Hundreds of years ago witches came to the earth... from the future.
In the future witches were born through a mutation of a virus that was supposed to cure cancer... which it obviously didn't. Instead of curing the feared disease, it boosted the test individuals� strength and senses beyond the regular human limits. It also gave them unbelievable powers that scientists couldn�t explain and no man had ever seen. So yes, in a way witches are indeed the failed result of humans' own tests.
A lady called Meredithia Flower was one of the three scientists that build a time machine in the year 2100 which she used after she was infected by the virus through an unfortunate accident. Since the virus had few nasty side effects which sadly involved around paranoia and therefore killing people to protect oneself from non-existing enemies, she was hunted down by her own workmates. So to save herself she used the machine and transferred herself into the past where few of her colleagues followed her.
The virus Meredithia was carrying spread through air, at first anyway but could only survive in the air through 2 seconds (and 5,5 meters) which is why only one little town got seriously infected. Also, only the virus Meredithia was carrying had the ability to spread � which stopped after 5 days. Through years the side effects of the virus disappeared and only the superhuman strength and other �magical� powers stayed. Although the powers vary and no one can predict what kind of powers one will have. One witch might not have superhuman strenght or better senses and some may not have any kind of other powers and so on.
After the spreading through air stopped, the gene was only passed onto from mother to daughter and only few males have been known to carry it. Even less have had those 'witch powers' and even now both female and male witches are cruelly and inhumanly examined to discover the final truth.
Meredithia�s co-workers, the cleaner team, later known as hunters created the ancestor of Centre to capture all the witches and to eliminate them as they were thought to be dangerous and paranoid.
In the past the paranoia never got easier, but in the present time, the paranoia usually wears off in a matter of few days leaving behind a fully able and normal human being... with more or less witch genes, of course.
