To The Death

Author: Dani Email: [email protected] Rating: R Summary: It's Buffy's turn to kill a human... Note: Dru & Spike are history. Set a few years in the future, season 4 - nada!!!
Buffy was walking along with her two best friends, feeling good. It's friday night, no prophecies in sight and I'm alive. Time to Bronze it! "Oz meeting us there?" Xander inquired. "Yeah! I get to be girlfriend for half the night and groupie for the rest. There's another band playing for the last few hours." Willow beamed. "Willow, you're always a groupie and a..." Buffy paused as Xander grabbed her arm in alarm. "Is that Spike?" Looking where he was pointing, Buffy got a glimpse of the peroxide blonde turning down the alley with a young woman. "Why me? Why tonight?" she grumbled as she broke into a run, her friends following more cautiously. The vampire never saw her coming. So he went down quite easily when she jumped him. "Long time Spike! Dru's dead! Did you know that?" she taunted as she threw a few punches at his face. "SSLAYYEERR!!.....GET OFF!" Spike landed a particularily brutal blow to her gut, causing her to see stars. Managing to keep him down, she opened her mouth to respond with another witty quip when she was jumped. By the girl Spike had been walking with. Losing her grip on the vampire, Buffy rolled a few feet away, wrestling with the other girl. Shoving her away, HARD, she leapt into a fighting stance awaiting the attack. Didn't realize she was a vampire too! Got to be more careful. The girl was lying against the wall she had hit when Buffy sent her flying, not moving. Glancing at Willow and Xander who stood off to the side, Buffy relaxed her stance and watched in confusion as Spike flew to the girl's side. "Simone! Are you ok?" he gently pushed the long blonde hair from her face. That's when Buffy saw the blood. OH GOD! She wasn't a vamp! "Spike?" she coughed up some more of the inky redness, splattering her chest and Spike. "I hurt.." "I know pet! But I'm gonna get help! You'll be ok." Gently lifting the girl, he speared the slayer with a harsh glare, then fled towards the hospital. "She...she...she was...human! Oh God!" Willow looked as if she was about to faint, holding her hand to her mouth. Buffy wanted to comfort her, but knew she didn't have time. "Xander! Get Giles. Have him come to the hospital. PRONTO!" Buffy felt like crying. I could have killed her. I might have killed her. OHGODOHGODOHGOD! Seeing Willow clutching Xander, Buffy ran as fast as possible after Spike. Busting through the emergency doors, she skidded to a halt just in front of Spike. He didn't even notice, just continued to pace , a look of anxiety on his face. Why is he so concerned with a girl? Humans are just food to vampires. Needing to know if the girl was going to be okay, Buffy hesitantly put her hand on his forearm, causing him to pause and look at her. Stepping back, she didn't know what to do when Spike looked at her with complete hatred in his eyes. "I...i...is she gonna be ok?" the slayer managed to squeak out, her throat barely allowing it. Spike morphed into his game face and was about to launcg himself at her, when a doctr stepped into the waiting room and asked to speak to him. Buffy watched as he forced himself to relaz and return to his human face before turning to address the little man. "How is she...?" "Her injuries are extensive. We don't know yet if she'll make it. It looks like every rib was broken, and her left lung was punctured in two places. We're doing everything we can to save your friend." he started to turn away but paused, "She keeps asking for someone named Alexia." Spike slapped his hands to his face and turned a whiter shade of pale than normal. Didn't realize that anyone could go that pale. He looks translucent. Seeing him head for the exit, Buffy assured the doc that they would contact family and be right back, before following quickly behind. Breaking into a fast jog, Buffy kept pace beside Spike. They didn't speak, nor did the vampire attack. They simply ran to the Bronze. Wondering why they were there, of all places, Buffy was about to pull out money for the cover charge when Spike shoved past him and went in. Dropping a twenty on the guy, she entered just as he headed for the stage, pausing a few feet away. She arrived at his side as a kid with shoulder lenght blue hair stepped off the stage. "What are we doing here? Shouldn't we be getting ahold of her family?" Recieving no answer, all she could do was stand helplessly by his side and watch the boy with blue hair approach. "WHERE IS SHE?" Spike's tone was deadly, but the boy didn't seem to notice. "I don't know dude. We were in the middle of a song, when suddenly she screamed. Loud, like she'd been shot or something. Freaked the shit out of me! Then she jumped off the stage and raced out. She was wigged. Seriously wigged man." Feeling Spike's cold hand grab her elbow, Buffy was forced to turn and dragged out of the building. He didn't let go, not even when she stumbled or tripped, just kept dragging her, refusing to slow down. Noticing the shine of the hospital lights, Buffy fell to her knees when Spike abruptly let go. Gasping for breath and rubbing her sore shin's, she watched the doors bang open and Giles run out. Willow, Oz and Xander followed on his heels. Then she watched in amazement, as the girl she had shoved walked out. Spike was at the girl's side in an instant. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he raised one hand to stroke her hair in a comforting motion. Felling hands helping her up, Buffy looked up into Giles' face. Knowing something was seriously wrong, she walked towards the vampire and his companion. It's not right! There's no way she'd be up and walking if I broke her ribs. But thank god she's all right. I couldn't bare it if I turned into Faith. Hearing the girl's sobs and Spike's comforting words threw her, but she was determined to apologize. "I am SO sorry! I didn't mean to..." she broke off as bloodshot green eyes met her own. "Simone...I" "My name is Alexia. ALEXIA!" the woman screamed at her, stepping out of Spike's embrace, a look of unbelievable fury on her face. Putting 2 and 2 together, Buffy realized Simone had a twin sister. And she was dead. OH GOOOOODDD! "That's correct! My twin sister. She's dead and it's your FAULT!" the words were spoken in such a way that Buffy felt chills run up her spin. She can read my mind! Back-peddling, she looked behind her at her watcher and friends. About to turn and run, a faint glow caught her eye and she turned back to face them. Alexia's hands were glowing. Feeling true fear for the first time, Buffy took a step back, but knew she wouldn't escape. Seeing the pale green light leap towards her, she heard Giles call her, wanting to come to her rescue. "NO! Stay backkkkkk..." then it hit and the pain was intense. It felt like her insides were on fire and a thousand tiny blades sliced deep into her flesh. I deserve this. I hope Giles and the other's don't try to seek vengance. The last thing she felt was her bones grinding together as she was crushed by an invisible force. ~ Seeing the slayer drop to the ground dead, Spike gathered Alexia back to his chest. It broke his heart to listen to his beloved weep for her sister, but he knew that her pain had lessened by destroying Simone's killer. Feeling her tears soak into his shirt, he watched cautiously as Giles approached the slayer's body and checked for signs of life. "It's over! If you come after us, I will kill you." he promised when the watcher had stood back up. Then he led Alexia into the shadows and dissappeared. ~ EPILOGUE: (Entry in the watcher's journal) We laid Buffy to rest today. A week to the day of her death. It was a beautiful service and I couldn't contain my tears. Alexia came to apologize yesterday. I don't hold her responsible though. Even if she was the one that killed Buffy, I know that she didn't mean to. She's a lovely girl, living a life no one should have to. She has voluntered to help contain the hellmouth until a new slayer arrives and I believe we'll be okay. Buffy will never be forgotten, but hopefully her death wasn't in vain. Giles, 8th of May 2002.
