Summer Away Days With the nights now starting to draw in the summer away-days are now unfortunately over for another year. The away days this year have been very well supported and we seem to have been lucky with the weather, having bright sunny evening on most occasions. Pictures from the Notton away day on 12 May and Race the Train on 23 June are shown right. The Watch Your Time event this year was organised by Martin Bates at Grange Moor, to celebrate his 70th birthday. This event involved runners guessing the time they will take to complete the course, running without a watch. Rosalind Bedford was the winner, finishing just 15 seconds outside her estimated time (results below right). The final away day of the summer was the Ingbirchworth Duathlon held on 18 August. Another well supported event with 36 club members taking part, either running or cycling or both on another bright sunny evening. The event involved a multi-terrain run of 5.4km (3.35m) followed by an undulating on-road cycle ride of 16.1km (10.0m). Alistair Rees was the overall winner in an excellent time of 51.52, followed home by Tony Weston and Dave Bebbington. Overall results are shown below, with the fastest 10 runners and top 10 cyclists shown below right. One minor problem on the night was that some cyclists, for whatever reason didn’t manage to take the right course. This has resulted in some ‘anomalies’ in the cycle time results, about which your reporter will say no more! |

Dearne Way Relay — Sunday 27 September This year, teams from local clubs will be joining us for the event. The race is a 3-stage off-road relay, with each leg about 6 miles. Leg 1 is from the Pie Hall to West Bretton, leg 2 back to the Pie Hall and leg 3 to Birdsedge and back. The route follows more or less the Dearne Way path and maps of the course are available on the Dearne Way Relay page of this site. Hopefully, DDT will have men’s and ladies teams challenging at the front of the race and social teams running for fun etc are also very welcome. If you would like to take part in the race or help on the day, please contact Paul Carr or Damian Hall. |
