GENERAL ELECTION
7 June
2001
This is the vote total for the 2001 General Election. This was the first General Election in which candidates who were not supported by any registered political party had to give their ballot paper description as "Independent". Candidates with this description have been grouped together even though they are not necessarily connected in any way. A list of registered political parties is given on the website of the Electoral Commission (see the links page). Some Labour candidates included in their descriptions the fact that they were supported by the Co-operative Party; all such candidates are shown as Labour.
Figures are based on the official results published by the Electoral Commission.
