BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION

Using Table

Cumulative Binomial Probabilities tables gives cumulative probabilities.

Example

Toss a coin 10 times. Take head as the outcome of success. Calculate the prob. of getting 8 heads in 10 tosses.

Solution:

P(8 or fewer successes in 10 trials, p = 0.5)

=

P(7 or fewer successes in 10 trials, p = 0.5)

=

P(8 successes in 10 trials, p=0.5)

=

P(x successes)

= P(x successes) - P((x-1) or fewer successes)

Use a smaller probability for the ‘success’ outcome.
