PROBABILITY RULES

Multiplication Rule (The “And” Rule)

For statistical dependent events (where the probability of some event is effected by the occurrence of some other event)
It is called Bayes Theorem
P(event B given that event A has occurred) = P(B|A)
= P(B and A) / P(A)
P(A and B) = P(B|A) X P(A)
E.g.: There are 100 students in a first year college intake. 36 are male and and are studying Pascal, 9 are male and are studying C, 42 are female and are studying Pascal and 13 are female and studying C. Find:
a) P(C)
b) P(Male and C)
c) P(c given students are male)
d) P(Male given students are studying C)
