The whole concept of the final year at Uni revolves around ‘budget’ or cheap. We were paying £23.50 a week to live in this terrace on Hylton Road in Sunderland. Matt, Neil and Brian invited Andy and John to live with them in the final year as those two had been out on placement during 3rd year. The house wasn’t in pristine condition, but could certainly be used in an emergency: Andy’s shutter and taps sort of worked, the abuse and scum from outside were tolerable and living with individuals who couldn’t wash dishes made £23.50 acceptable. If ever we needed to vent anger at living in what could only be described as sh*t, we simply uttered £23.50 a week, and you know, it worked. It seemed to put right all the wrongs.. sort of!
