Johnnie Walker, a wee lad from Eyemouth in Scotland who followed rock music religiously (John agrees!). He had the big HI-FI, which regularly filled our rooms with Limp Biscuit and the baggy pants, but it was the hair that mattered! Spiked hair which was roughly 3” in height and on occasions, was highlighted in blue! Oh the mackems loved it, but best of all were the ape-like security guards of Wearmouth Hall who took a shine to those spikes. It soon became ritual on the twice-daily trek to the canteen for the security guards to pass comment: “ Areeeet Spike, how’s the hair these days” or “Areeeet Spike, bin sleepin’ too close to that plug again Spike!” We laughed every time. Johnnie didn’t!
